The Parsippany District 5 Fire Department has been serving eastern Parsippany since 1928. We are an all-volunteer fire department with a current membership of over 50 men and women who utilize two fire houses for response. Those firehouses house the following equipment:

Due to the ever changing needs of our community, our members are highly trained and certified in numerous areas including:
-Structural Firefighting
-Hazardous Materials (Operations/Technician Levels)
-Swift Water Rescue (Operations/Technician Levels)
-Ice Rescue (Operations/Technician Levels)
-Industrial Foam Firefighting
-Vehicle Extrication
-Emergency First Responder

The Parsippany District 5 Fire Department is proud to be part of the Morris County UASI Foam Task Force, and to house their own Hazardous Materials Team with trained Hazmat Technicians that work closely with the Whippany Fire Department Hazmat Team, Picatinny Arsenal Hazmat Teat, and Morris County Hazmat Team to serve the residents of Parsippany and the residents of Morris County. Members are privileged to receive specialized training for Hazmat within the state of NJ and a specialized Flammable Liquids and Foam training class in Texas. Our members are dedicated and motivated individuals who seek to serve the residents of Parsippany and Northern NJ. We hope that this page shows you the dedication of our members to the residents through social events with in the community, training, and emergency response. 🌪️Tornado & Flood Watch Issued 7-18-2026🌪️

The US National Weather Service Philadelphia/Mount Holly has issued a Tornado Watch and Flood Watch for our area through early this evening. Some hazards we may face are:

⛈️ Potential for heavy rainfall in excess of 2-3" depending on where storms set up.
⚡ Frequent cloud to ground lightning.
🍃 Wind gusts of 40–60+ mph are possible.
🌪️ An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out if the right storm develops.

How can you prepare before the next round of storms? Our partners at the Morris County Office of Emergency Management recommend securing:

🪑 Patio furniture
☂️ Umbrellas
🧑🏻‍🍳 Grills
🗑️ Garbage cans
⛺Tents
🪁Anything else that prefers flying over staying put

🌳Should you come across a powerline or tree down, please don't touch them! There could be hidden dangers. Please contact the Parsippany Police Department to report.

We're hoping that the storms just pass by us, but in the event they don't, take the time now to secure your belongings and prepare in the event of power outages.

Route 46 is closed in both directions near CubeSmart and Paul Miller due to a Motor Vehicle Collision with wires down on top of multiple vehicles. Please AVOID THE AREA if possible.

🚗District 5 Responds to Vehicle That Rolled Over Multiple Times 6-21-2026🚗

On the morning of Sunday June 21, 2026, the members of the Parsippany District 5 Fire Department were dispatched to Interstate 280 for a reported motor vehicle collision with a vehicle that had rolled over. On arrival, Chief 5 met with the Parsippany Troy-Hills Fire District 6 who had also been dispatched due to a different location being given. Chief 6 confirmed that there was no entrapment, but a fluid spill was present. Squad 6 arrived and mitigated the fluid spill. In addition, crews from Engine 54 and Rescue 5 assisted with clearing debris from the highway.

Chief 5, Engine 54, and Rescue 5 operated for just over 20 minutes before clearing the scene and turning the vehicle over to the tow company. Thank you to District 6 for the assistance!

🚜District 5 Responds to Overturned NJDOT Tractor 6-18-2026🚜

On the morning of Thursday June 18, 2026, members of the Parsippany District 5 Fire Department were dispatched, along with Parsippany Rescue and Recovery Unit and Par-Troy EMS for a reported motor vehicle collision with an overturned vehicle. On arrival, Deputy 5 found a single farm style tractor on its roof. Thankfully, the occupant was uninjured was able to remove themselves from the vehicle. The crew of Rescue 5 mitigated a fluid spill as a result of the collision.

Chief 5, Deputy 5, and Rescue 5 operated for approximately 2 hours until the tractor was up righted. During this time, an additional 2 crews stood by to provide coverage for the rest of the District.

⛳District 5 Pre-Plans with Districts 4 and 6 at Topgolf Prior to Grand Opening on 7-3-2026⛳

On Wednesday June 24, 2026, the members of the Parsippany District 5 Fire Department invited the members of Lake Hiawatha District 4 and the Parsippany Troy-Hills Fire District 6 for a walk through and pre-plan of our newest community member, Topgolf.
During this time, members of all three agencies were escorted through the building by the General Manager who focused on the layout, fire protection, egress, and access locations to various portions of the building.

After the walk through, all three districts spent time pre-planning apparatus placement, specifically aerial locations to ensure that access to all portions of the building were able to be covered depending on which aerial was placed in a variety of different locations

We'd like to thank our newest partner, Topgolf for allowing us to stop by last night and take a walk through what promises to be a great addition for our community! ☢️District 5 Hazmat Team Responds to Multiple Activations Already in 2026☢️

⚠️This year has proven to be a busy year for our Hazmat Team, responding to multiple activations at the request of the Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department, Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Company, Lake Parsippany Volunteer Fire Company District 3, Boonton Fire Department, and the Cedar Knolls Fire Department. All activations have been fuel spill or combustible liquid spills with extensive mitigation required. Crews have worked from simple absorbent deployment to utilizing boats to deploy booms to stop the flow of the liquids. Our crews have also been working closely with the IAFF Local F-169, Morris County Hazardous Materials Unit, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, New Jersey Department of Transportation, and New Jersey State Police.

We are saddened to hear about the passing of Chief George Gilliland, or as many knew him MAC 21. While Chief Gilliland was a member of the Lincoln Park Fire Department, he was part of the District 5 family as well. We ask that you keep everyone that knew Chief Gilliland, his family, and friends in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time.

🔥District 5 Responds to Brush Fire on Rt280 on 5-16-2026🔥

In the early afternoon of Saturday May 17, 2026, members were dispatched to Route 280 for a reported brush fire. On arrival, Deputy 5 found a working brush fire that was actively spreading. Chief 5 arrived and requested an engine from the East Hanover Fire Department and Parsippany Troy-Hills Fire District 6 to assist. Engine 56 arrived and made a quick knock of the bulk of the fire. Due to the drier conditions in that section, crews remained on scene for a longer period of time to ensure all surrounding areas were wet down as a precaution.

Chief 5, Deputy 5, Ladder 5, Engine 54, Engine 56, and Utility 5 operated for just under one hour before returning to service.

🔥District 5 Backs District 4 on a Shed Fire Close to the House 5-10-2026🔥

In the morning of Sunday May 10, 2026, members of Parsippany District 5 were dispatched to back District 4 with a shed fire that was close to a house. On arrival, Chief 4 found a fully involved shed in the backyard of the residence. The crew of Engine 41 arrived and stretched an attack line to the rear of the property to start fire attack. The crew of Engine 56 established a water supply and fed Engine 41 while the crew of Engine 54 assisted with checking for extension to the residence. The crews of Engine 56 and Squad 5 assisted with overhaul while the crew of Ladder 5 went to the block behind to ensure no damage to the home behind the shed.

🚒Chief 5, Deputy 5, Ladder 5, Engine 54, Engine 56, and Squad 5 operated for just under one hour before being released by command.

🔥District 5 Responds to Mutual Aid House Fire in District 4🔥

In the afternoon of Wednesday May 6, 2026, members of the Parsippany District 5 Fire Department were requested to back Lake Hiawatha District 4 on a residential structure fire. On arrival, Chief 5 confirmed a working house fire from a 1 story Type 5 structure. Within 5 minutes of being dispatched, Ladder 5 arrived and pulled an attack line, while another crew started to perform a search. Engine 41 arrived right behind Ladder 5 and assisted with stretching a line and searches. Ladder 5 was able to obtain it's own water supply, and Engine 54 brought a secondary water supply in from down the street as a precaution. Crews worked to open up the roof, as well as perform secondary searches which proved negative.

Chief 5, Ladder 5, Engine 54, Engine 56, and Utility 5 operated for just under 2 hours before returning to service. In addition to Districts 4 & 5 on scene, the Boonton Fire Department RIC, Parsippany's Rockaway Neck Volunteer First Aid Squad, Par-Troy EMS, and Parsippany Police Department. Providing station coverage was the Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Company and Pine Brook Volunteer Fire Department.
