* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHEN...From late tonight through Monday morning.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Total rainfall of 1.5 to 2.5 inches is expected through 8 AM
Monday across the watch area, with isolated totals of 3 to 5
inches possible. With soils still wet from past rainfall, such
rain totals could create flash flooding conditions.

The immediate section of the Cheat River where the new bridge for RT 48 is crossing just outside of Parsons will be impassable starting tomorrow 8/15/26 for approximately 4 weeks.
This is so crews can safely place the beams and connect the bridge across
All other areas are unaffected by this particular project.

There is a potential for flash flooding today and into tomorrow. Stay aware of your surroundings as severe storms can dump large amounts of rain in a short time frame.
Always be prepared for 72 hours of self sustainability
And never drive through standing water.
Turn around don’t drown.

BUCKHANNON, WV – July 24, 2026 - Officials from the City of Buckhannon • Upshur County Commission • Upshur County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management are requesting community assistance to help meet urgent needs of residents impacted by recent flooding.

The following items are critically needed

Extension cords
Fans
Air mattresses
Toilet paper
Paper towels
Non‑perishable food items
Gatorade
Paper plates
Plastic silverware
Regular‑size trash bags
Mops
Brooms
Shovels
Clorox (liquid disinfectant)

Donation Drop‑Off Location

Thomas VFD and Mountain State Brewing (Thomas location) are drop off locations for these items. We will take the first truck load this Sunday, July 26th.
