The “Big Squeeze” committee is encouraging Decatur Countians to honor area veterans on Thursday, July 2, 2020 by not only sampling all of the great lemonade at the “PATRIOTIC” lemonade stands around the county, but also by participating in the First Annual Golf Cart Parade. The Big Squeeze is usually held annually on the Friday before July 4th, but since many of the businesses are closing on Friday due to the Fourth of July being on Saturday this year, the event will be held on Thursday.

A prize will be awarded for the best PATRIOTIC decorated golf cart, along with two honorable mentions. The golf carts will line at the Parsons Municipal Park, located at the old airport. The golf carts or side-by-sides filled with veterans will continue on the parade route beginning at 2:00 p.m. to a program which will be held in the empty lot next to Decatur County Bank in Parsons.

If you have a parent, grandparent, neighbor, or just a friend who is a veteran, ask them to allow you the honor and privilege of driving them in the parade.

For more information and to register, please contact The News Leader at 731-847-6354.

“The Big Squeeze” Honoring Our Veterans
Decatur County is blessed with many, many veterans. They deserve the thanks, recognition, love and honor of each and every person in the county. All military-related organizations, civic groups, government agencies, churches, businesses, youth groups, family members and individuals are encouraged to enter a golf cart and proudly escort veterans in the parade.
The golf cart parade is a simple parade to prepare for and the focus is on the veterans. The theme is “Patriotic”, so the decorations will be easy to do. If you have a parent, grandparent, neighbor, or just a friend who is a veteran, ask them to allow you the honor and privilege of driving them in the parade.
The parade line-up will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 2 and the parade will start at 2:00 p.m. Please begin registering your golf cart entry as soon as possible. Give your veteran(s) a call and tell them, “I’ve got you covered!”
Please help applaud our community’s veterans to thank them for their service and sacrifice!
For more information and to register, please contact The News Leader at 731-847-6354.

Eyes to the skies! Don’t forget, the Tennessee National Guard will host a statewide flyover, May 12, to show appreciation to all the healthcare heroes and first responders. At approximately 12:30 local time, residents in the downtown Nashville area should see a C-17 and a KC-135 aircraft circle the city as they make their way across the state. The C-17 will head towards Memphis and fly over various cities and local hospitals. One KC-135 will head towards Roane County and one KC-135 will begin in Johnson County and end near Marion County. If you see us, tag us and use #TNSalutes !

Residents can observe the flyover from the safety of their homes and should refrain from traveling to see the flyover tomorrow. We encourage everyone to follow social distancing guidelines.

This flyover is a normal training event and serves as mandatory flight hours for pilots and crew to maintain current proficiency.

April Barrett posted a comment and this clip earlier this week, but I have not seen anything from the Chamber in reply, so I wanted to post directly. She said: "The Sazerac company has been named as the second largest spirits company in the US. The average base salary for a Sazerac employee is $89,600 annually. Recently, they invested $70 Million in Kentucky bringing in more than 100 jobs. Perhaps the citizens of Murfreesboro have too many jobs to appreciate an investment such as this. Why don't we offer our Southern hospitality to Sazerac and welcome them to Decatur County?"
In addition to fresh, locally grown produce this Saturday, the Decaturville Farmers Market will be painting rocks to "hide" to build community relations and provide fun and enjoyment. Saturday, July 15th at 9 am. Find a rock or two, bring to the Farmers Market -Decaturville Mainstreet/Decatur County Extension (parking lot beside the UT Extension - Decatur County) and have fun painting, hiding, finding, and re-hiding the rocks. The Farmers Market will provide the paint, brushes, and clear coat. After you have your rocks painted and ready go, hide them in public places and highly foot-trafficked areas for people to find. More instructions will be available Saturday. You can also go to the Decatur County Rocks page or Pinterest for more ideas.
Come over to Chamber for lemonade, homemade chocolate chip cookies, and boiled peanuts!
