Storm Update:

Sunday November 3, 2019

A little over a week after Decatur County suffered a Catastrophic storm from the south end to the north end. Here is where we stand currently.

According to LES approx 1500-1800 customers are still without power. Estimates are it could be up to a week to 10 days before power is fully restored.

Red Cross still has a shelter open at the Decatur County Fairgrounds. A shower and Laundry trailer are there also and open to public.

All Water Systems are no longer under the boil alert.

Decatur County EMA has completed initial Damage Assessment of Residential areas with close to 400 Residences affected. Out of those close to 50 were majorly damaged or destroyed.

Several County Government buildings also have sustained damage.

The Point of Distribution is open daily at the Decatur County Civic Center. Hours are being posted on TNL Today. Everyone is welcome to get what they need.

Decatur County Schools closed through Wednesday November 6, 2019.

Debris can be dropped off at the fairgrounds in the lower area within the fence. Dumpsters are on-site. If you are unable to get debris in dumpsters place it on ground beside the brush already there. If you can't get it to the fairgrounds place debris on side of road and the county will get to it when they can.

Decatur County EMA would like to thank everyone that has been involved and helped Decatur County through this event. I ask that everyone please continue to be patient. Thank you!!

Patience is a virtue, but we know it’s getting hard. According to Jeff Graves, General Manager of Lexington Electric System, there is no way to put a day or time on when everyone’s power will be restored.
“We have to get all the main feeder lines up and running first before we can go to the secondary lines,” explained Graves. “If we tried to go out and get the other lines up and going before we did the main lines, it wouldn’t do any good because there would be nothing to hook to.”
Graves says the main feed lines are not necessarily running down Hwy. 412. Since not a single one of the breakers at the substation were working after the “hurricano” came through, workers have to find the trouble for each line and then go back to substation and start over again.
Graves says they begin by setting out a plan to get hospitals, nursing homes, police and communications, water and utilities on first. “It’s a big deal getting the water back on because we’ve got to have water to survive.”
LES is working almost around the clock, along with 60-70 other crews. Gibson Electric has two crews working; JEA- two crews; Milan-one crew; Carroll County-2 crews; Benton County-1 crew; Lawrenceburg-one crew and Weakley County Electric-2 crews. LES says the crews will change and swap out and they won’t all be able to stay with us.
“We’re trying to stay rested up, because we know it’s going to be a long, drawn out process,” states Graves. “This is the worst weather event since the ice storm in ’94 and it’ll probably end of being worse than that. The rural part of the county will be out a while. Then, they are calling for another weather event today and Thursday, so we don’t know what’s going to happen.”
LES says they have a plan they go by and they know every single person who has power and who does not. There may be a house across the road who has electricity and you may not, but that’s just how it works. So –– be patient. They are doing the best they can.

Update:

PRECAUTIONARY Boil water alert on the Parson and Perryville Water system for drinking and cooking water until further notice.

Parsons Water tanks ran dry this morning. This is the cause of no water in the Parsons Area. As of this minute the electricity has just been restored to the intake at Beech Bend. If no problems arise they should be pumping water shortly.

Bath Spring area should have water at current time excluding the areas along the river. (Eagles Nest, Bob's Lake, River's Edge etc.) Talking with the Scott Hill officials once power is restored to the wells in Bath Springs water will be restored system wide.

North Utility District currently has water but depending on the Parsons system could run low.

Perryville Utlity District still has areas with no water but are working to restore.

Water Distribution Sites:

Jeanette Vol. Fire Dept. 10am
Parsons Municipal Building 10am
Decatur County Library 10am
Bath Springs Community Center 10am

Main Roads throughout the County are open and passable. Secondary Roads are mostly passable with one lane. Numerous power outages still throughout the county. Lexington electric are working to restore power to areas of the county. Some areas will still have an extended time to restore to power.
