📢 I joined WBFF FOX 45 this morning to break down the latest legal decisions from Anne Arundel County and Dorchester County Circuit Courts in Maryland's redistricting ballot question fight. Both rulings are on hold as the state appeals to the Maryland Supreme Court, with arguments scheduled for Thursday -- the same day the State Board of Elections is set to begin printing ballots. As I said on air, both courts found the legislature broke their own rules and are misleading voters with the ballot wording -- "If you break the legislature's law, it's a crime. If the legislature breaks its own law, it's discretion. History hasn't been kind to rulers who kept two sets of rules."

📰 PSA: The temporary closure of Finance Office at the Arundel Center North (aka the Sarah V. Carter Building) is not associated with the Empire Towers building. Here is the official information from Finance regarding the Glen Burnie cashier's office. They are planning to have it re-opened in mid-September, pending passage of construction inspections. It is closed as the entire building has been undergoing HVAC repairs. Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) just admitted its gender identity policy hid information from parents. They only fixed it after America First Legal filed a lawsuit and the federal government threatened to take further action. This was a bad policy championed by progressive Board of Education members. It is not “inclusion” to block parents from full access to everything going in their children’s educational records. That’s bureaucrats and progressive activists taking away parental rights.

It is crazy that it took a federal ultimatum — comply or face a lawsuit and lose funding — before AACPS agreed parents have the right to see their child’s complete education record. This is what progressive’s “kinder” and “gentler” political positions look like. Remember that when you’re voting. (🔗Link in comments below 👇)

⚡️ 💵 Your electricity bill is going up — and data centers are a big reason why. That’s not speculation. It’s basic economics, backed by data from Constellation, PJM, and BGE: low supply + skyrocketing demand = higher prices. Right now, AI data centers are driving some of the fastest electricity demand growth this region has ever seen, and every Marylander is paying for it.

I’ve introduced legislation to ban new data centers in Anne Arundel County until we figure out how we’re actually going to power all of this new demand without pricing families out of their own electric bills. States like Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania races to built data centers as fast as possible and left the rest of the regional grid (PJM) holding the bag on rising costs. Maryland ratepayers are already absorbing that fallout. We don’t need to add to it.

Here’s the trap: some people want to shut down power plants — like Brandon Shores, right here in my district — while demand keeps skyrocketing. You can’t have it both ways. You can’t push for more data centers, more AI, more grid demand, and simultaneously take generation offline, all while ignoring what it does to the cost of living for the people already paying the bills. Something has to give, and right now it’s your monthly electric bill. Cost of living isn’t an abstract issue — it’s your electric bill, every single month. Before Anne Arundel County adds more demand to an already strained grid, we need a real plan to power it. Otherwise we’re just making the affordability crisis worse with no solution in sight.

Support Bill 63-26. Let’s fix the power problem before we make your cost of living even higher.

Went “Downee Ocean, Hon” this week for the MACo Summer Conference. It’s a great reminder of how much local governments impact our daily lives. I connected with officials and staff from across Maryland’s counties, and sat in on some very informative discussions on cybersecurity threats to local governments, election challenges statewide, and significant, recent legal decisions in MD affecting counties. Anne Arundel County’s priorities need a strong voice in these statewide conversations - whether it’s data center policy, housing, or how we fund the basics our communities rely on. The decisions being shaped in rooms like these matter for District 3 and beyond. That’s why I show up for our community. Already looking at how we can bring some of these ideas home. 🦀🌊
