This morning, we passed the Anne Arundel County FY27 budget with the following highlights for District 3:
- Full funding for a new CHS Field House
- $50,000 for repairing the bridges in Tanyard Springs community
- $750,000 for feasibility study funds for new schools - Riviera Beach ES, CBMS, and Bodkin ES

We also listened to the community and delayed the funding by a year for any changes at Beachwood Park to allow more time for the county to take feedback into account.

High level, the schools received over $72m in new funds to meet the mandates of the MD Blueprint. We are adding 26 new firefighters to the County this year to help address staffing needs. We are adding 9 new staff to the police department to fully staff (24/7) the Real Time Information Center (RTIC).

While I voted for the budget, we could have saved more money and we could have stayed within the property tax cap (which the County Executive ignored and overrode in this budget). That only would’ve taken about $6m in cuts, and there were ways to do that. That’s why I stood alone and voted against the property tax rate. I also had to vote against the 146% increase in the fire flow test fee, since that is a cost paid by home builders that is entirely passed along to home buyers - making homes less affordable.

Steuart Pittman — outgoing Anne Arundel County Executive and new MD Democratic Party Chair — is refusing to cooperate with ICE and actively blocking federal immigration enforcement in our county.

And he’s making YOU pay for it. Your tax dollars are funding legal services for people here illegally.

This isn’t a policy difference. This is a sitting official violating his oath of office to score political points on his way out the door.

Anne Arundel County deserves better.

It was an honor to celebrate Northeast High School students Jacob Blunt and Landon Chubbuck, who were the recipients of the Candace C.W. Antwine Military Service Award, at the scholarship dinner a few weeks ago.

The award reduces financial barriers to military service by providing funds for expenses related to enlisting, including uniforms and basic training supplies. The program was created in 2021 to honor the military and civic service of Antwine, a former school board member who died that year. Blunt and Chubbuck were presented with $1,500 checks at a Wednesday Anne Arundel County Board of Education meeting.

When the proposal came out to put 94 townhouses at Edwin Raynor Blvd and Mountain Road, I was furious (like so many of you). The zoning on this property was changed to allow for a gas station at the corner and commercial / medical office space - not houses. The developers changed up, so I immediately started working to change up too. For the last few years, I’ve been working with Anne Arundel County Public Library on a new Mountain Road Library. This presented an opportunity and together we’re now working to acquire this property for the county and use it for a combination new Mountain Road Library and new Pasadena Senior Center. There is money in this year’s county budget to conduct a feasibility study on this property, and the hope is that by the end of 2026 the County will be purchasing this land to add these new facilities and services to our community, while also stopping the development of housing here. Please sign this petition to show your support for the County to buy this land to put in a new Mountain Road Library and Pasadena Senior Center!
