The mission of Armand Bayou Nature Center (ABNC) is twofold:

To preserve the wetlands prairie, forest and marsh habitats with which we have been entrusted. To provide opportunities for people to experience the Armand Bayou habitats and the importance of preserving these vanishing habitats. Through preservation and education, ABNC strives to "Reconnect People with Nature". ABNC contains 2500 a

cres of the natural wetlands forest, prairie and marsh habitats once abundant in the Houston/Galveston area. ABNC is home to over 370 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. ABNC offers hiking trails, exhibits, field trips, Scout programs, birding, a historic farm and fun for all.

ABNC invites schools to explore, discover, and observe the natural world around us. With engaging STEM activities covering everything from the tiniest insects 🔍 to the massive, majestic bison 🦬, our field trips turn nature into a classroom.

Keep an eye out for these fluttery friends next time you hit the trails at ABNC! 🦋 While they certainly aren’t all of the butterflies we have to offer, Swallowtails, Gulf Fritillaries, and Monarchs are just a few of our most active local species to spot.

Pollinators contribute so much to the environment, so protecting their habitat is how we give back. How many can you spot on your next hike? 🥾☀️

It’s at ABNC! Today, we’re looking at nature from a whole new perspective: a worm’s-eye view!🪱📸

What is a worm’s-eye view? It’s a photography technique where you place your camera low to the ground and tilt it upward. This unique angle makes everyday flowers, trees, and fungi look gigantic, making you feel teeny-tiny, just like a worm! 🐛👇

How to take your own shots:

🔎 Find your subject: Pick a towering tree, a colorful wildflower, or a mysterious mushroom.

👇 Get low: Crouch or position your camera low to look up from beneath your subject.

⬆️ Angle up: Tilt your camera upward. Be sure to capture tall, vertical lines to really drive home the “worm” perspective.

📸 Focus & snap: Set your focus, hit the shutter (or use a timer), and take the shot!

Shooting from a worm’s-eye view is a fantastic way to interact with nature at ABNC. It encourages you to slow down, get creative, and notice the smaller details around you.
