Sunlight is an inexhaustible resource. Its energy is key to reducing carbon emissions, decreasing waste, and lessening CO2 emissions. These goals are essential to mitigating the worst effects of climate change.

The discovery of new catalysts that can convert sunlight into desired chemical feedstocks is one of the key hurdles researchers face. In this lecture, Bren Professor of Chemistry Jonas Peters, who also leads the Resnick Sustainability Institute (RSI), will explain how and where he and his colleagues are looking for those crucial parts of the puzzle.

Join us on Wednesday, February 17 at 5 p.m. PT as Caltech assistant professor Mansi Kasliwal shares her passion for astronomy and her work making movies of stellar explosions.

Kasliwal will explain how astronomers discover cosmic fireworks with robotic telescopes and how they have undertaken a global follow-up campaign to characterize these energetic and ephemeral events.

She will also discuss how astronomers combine information from multiple cosmic messengers—light, neutrinos, and gravitational waves—to gain a more comprehensive understanding of our universe.
