🎓 April Student Spotlight 🎓
Long before the first hint of daylight touches the Gulf Coast, Timothy is already awake in Lucedale. At 3:30 each morning, while most of the town still sleeps, he rises without hesitation and begins his commute. By 4:30, he is at work at Ingalls Shipbuilding, stepping into the steady rhythm of a job that demands both discipline and endurance. As a welder work-leader man, he carries responsibility every day—but he is aiming higher, with plans to become a foreman and eventually a welding instructor.
Since July of 2025, his days have not ended when his shift is over. Instead, they have taken on a second purpose. After work, he heads to the Pascagoula Adult Center, often arriving early and waiting quietly for classes to begin at 5:00 p.m. When asked why he made the decision to return, his answer is simple: it was long overdue.
Even after a full day of demanding work—and a commute that begins before dawn—he shows up ready to learn. Page by page, lesson by lesson, he has been preparing for the HiSET, determined to pass his final test and earn his high school equivalency diploma. Along the way, his growth has not gone unnoticed. His math and science instructor, Lee Ann Howard, says, “He has grown by leaps and bounds, and I appreciate him for his dedication.”
When told this, Timothy offered a reflection of his own: “I appreciate her determination to get me through classes and the strength to keep going and reach my goal.”
Now, with the finish line in sight, he hopes to walk across the stage at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on May 12. It will be more than a ceremony—it will mark years of persistence and a commitment to growth.
Looking ahead, Timothy plans to stay at Ingalls until he retires, continuing to build not only ships, but also a future shaped by hard work, education, and determination.
