**UPDATE** - The transfer process is complete and normal traffic in the area has resumed.

Independence Road in the Franklin Creek area is currently closed due to accident involving an 18-wheeler rollover. The contents of the truck have been identified as gasoline and is not leaking but, will have to be offloaded - which will keep the road closed for a few hours. E3 Environmental is handling the transfer process. The accident occurred at approximately 2:31 AM this morning.

Franklin Creek Road to Patrick Henry Street can be used as a detour to get to Forts Lake Road.

‼️ Jackson County Office of Emergency Services Announces Sandbag Availability Ahead of Expected Heavy Rainfall ‼️

As South Mississippi prepares for the potential of heavy rainfall and localized flooding, the Jackson County Office of Emergency Services is taking proactive steps to help residents prepare for possible impacts.

To assist residents in protecting homes and property, sand and sandbags will be available for self-service filling at the following designated locations throughout Jackson County. (Must bring your own shovels, sandbags provided.)

Continued prescribed burning by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service today.

Prescribed Fire Scheduled

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service is planning to conduct a prescribed burn today, 6/14/26, at the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge. The potential burn site consists of 361 acres located North of Interstate 10 and East of Seaman Road in Jackson County, MS

Prescribed fires are an essential part of Refuge management to restore the native wet pine savanna, which is home to the critically endangered Mississippi sandhill cranes and dusky gopher frogs. Burning to remove hazardous fuels also creates a safer environment for the public living in rural areas. Weather conditions are forecasted to be favorable for a successful burn and a burn permit has been issued from the State of Mississippi.

Personnel assisting with the burn are highly trained in wildland fire and maintains fire breaks around the Refuge. The public should be aware that smoke may move through some adjacent areas and that Refuge equipment & personnel will be in the area. There is a chance that roads in the area may be temporarily closed for safety reasons.

Jackson County responded to a reported structure fire on Mallory Drive in the St. Martin area tonight. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the eaves and discovered fire in the kitchen area upon completion of a 360 degree size up. Occupants were confirmed to be out upon arrival and an offensive attack was made to bring the fire under control a short time later. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire was reported at approximately 7:56 PM.

The week around Jackson County…

Our new foam system being used for its first fire! C-Shift personnel responded to an abandoned mobile home fire where the Burner system was used during the overhaul stage of the fire!

Our next Employee Spotlight features Lieutenant Andrew Warren. LT Warren joined Jackson County in 2021 after previously working for the Moss Point and Gautier Fire Departments. He currently works for both Jackson County and Moss Point serving two departments. LT Warren is also one of our newly promoted Lieutenants earning the rank in March of this year. He is assigned as a station Lieutenant at our Forts Lake/Franklin Creek fire station on C-Shift!
