‼️🚨 EMERGENCY ALERT — WOODS FIRE 🚨‼️

The Jackson County Office of Emergency Services is currently on scene of a woods fire in the Bayou Cumbest–Pecan area of Jackson County.

Residents in the affected area are strongly urged to evacuate as a precaution while emergency crews work to bring the fire under control.

⚠️ Everyone is asked to stay out of the affected area until further notice to allow emergency personnel to safely respond and work to bring the fire under control.

📍 Please refer to the attached map below for the affected area.

Keeping unnecessary traffic out of the area is critical to providing firefighters, emergency vehicles and other responding agencies clear and unrestricted access to safely conduct operations.

Residents should remain alert and follow instructions from emergency personnel. Additional information will be provided as conditions change.

Please avoid the area and allow emergency crews the space they need to work safely.

We are incredibly thankful to have been chosen as a recipient of the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Grant from Singing River Electric Power Company!

With this grant, our department was able to purchase a Sudz-It Utility Rinse System, which assists in removing hazardous materials from turnout gear after a fire. We were able to put this system in use for the first time last night following a business fire.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death among firefighters, and protecting the health and safety of our firefighters is one of our highest priorities. This system gives us another important tool to help reduce exposure to harmful contaminants and take every precaution possible to protect the men and women who serve our community.

We are truly grateful to Singing River Electric for supporting our department and helping us keep our firefighters safer. Thank you for investing in the health and well-being of our community and our first responders! 🚒❤️

TROPICAL DEPRESSION #2 UPDATE - PASCAGOULA ISSUES STATE OF EMERGENCY AHEAD OF POTENTIAL TROPICAL WEATHER JULY 20 | 12 PM

The City of Pascagoula, as well as Jackson County, has declared a state of emergency ahead of potential tropical weather in the Gulf effective today, July 20, at 12 PM. We are closely monitoring Tropical Depression #2 and its potential impacts. It is projected to move west across the northern Gulf and make impacts to the local area mainly Wednesday through Thursday morning with strong, gusty winds, minor to moderate storm surge flooding, and locally heavy rainfall We encourage you to stay weather aware and monitor Jackson County Office of Emergency Services, US National Weather Service New Orleans Louisiana, NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center, Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

City officials and departments are actively preparing and coordinating with Jackson County, and we will share more information about sandbags as it becomes available.

‼️ ‼️ UPDATED INFORMATION REGARDING TIME THAT SAND & SANDBAGS WILL BE AVAILABLE: ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL IS NOW 2:00 PM. ‼️ ‼️

The Jackson County Office of Emergency Services is closely monitoring Tropical Depression Two as it moves through the Gulf.

While the current forecast keeps Jackson County just outside the primary cone of uncertainty and significant strengthening is not anticipated at this time, tropical systems can still produce periods of heavy rainfall.

Out of an abundance of caution, Jackson County is making self-service sandbag locations available to residents who may wish to take proactive steps to help protect their property.

Sand and bags will be available beginning today at approximately 12:00 p.m. at the locations listed below. Residents are asked to bring their own shovels to fill sandbags.

Preparedness is about taking sensible precautions before they’re needed. If you live in a flood-prone area or simply want to be ready, these locations are available to help you prepare.

The Jackson County Office of Emergency Services will continue to monitor forecast conditions and share additional information if conditions change.
