Last week, our chapter had an amazing opportunity to tour City Farm SLO for our first industry tour of the year - and it certainly won’t be our last!

A huge thank you to Kayla and Robyn for taking the time to show us everything City Farm SLO is up to, and for sharing the incredible impact their organization continues to make in our community. 🫶🏻

From volunteer opportunities, employment roles and educational hands-on classes, to providing the community with locally raised produce and meats, as well as a space for local farmers to grow their own, we were truly blown away by all that City Farm SLO has accomplished - and all they continue to do for our community! 🌾💛👏🏻

Join us for a guided tour of City Farm SLO for this month’s chapter meeting coming up in less than two weeks! We’ll get an inside look at this incredible nonprofit and the impact it’s making across our local agricultural community. ✨🪴🌾

From youth education programs and volunteer opportunities to giving back to local food banks and pantries, City Farm SLO is creating meaningful connections between farmers and ranchers, community, and food accessibility. With 13 acres available to sublease to small-scale independent farmers, they’re also empowering the next generation of local growers and entrepreneurs!

Still reminiscing on another great year at the California Mid-State Fair ! From awarding scholarships to some incredible young individuals and getting to meet their animals, to catching up with friends and fellow advocates of the industry at the Cattlemen’s Dinner, the fair is always full of the kind of moments that remind us why we do what we do.

A huge congratulations again to all of our scholarship recipients! 🤩👏 We may not have gotten pictures with everyone, but we are beyond impressed by the hard work, dedication, and effort each of you continue to put in year after year. Watching the next generation take such pride in caring for their animals, and pursuing their goals is one our favorite ways to support our local ag community. We’re proud to invest in and cheer on the kiddos who will help carry agriculture forward!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared a conversation, supported our scholarship program, or simply helped make this fair season another one to remember. Stay tuned for more information about our upcoming meeting on Monday, August 24th. We hope to see you there! 🤠❤️

2026 San Luis Obispo County Agriculturalist, CattleWoman, Cattleman of the Year Named

Three local agriculture leaders honored at California Mid-State Fair

PASO ROBLES, CA (July 16, 2026) – Local agriculture organizations recognized three San Luis Obispo County farmers and ranchers during the California Mid-State Fair’s annual Cattlemen and Farmers Day at the Paso Robles Event Center on July 16, 2026.

The 2026 award recipients are:
John Lacey, Agriculturalist of the Year;
Nicole Nicholson, CattleWoman of the Year; and
Dale Evenson, Cattleman of the Year.

The respective awards were selected by members of the San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau, San Luis Obispo County CattleWomen, and San Luis Obispo County Cattlemen’s Association.

“Every year, San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau, San Luis Obispo County Cattlemen’s Association, and San Luis Obispo County CattleWomen select an individual who has served the agricultural industry and our community through farming, ranching, and advocating for agriculture. The San Luis Obispo County Cattlemen’s Association began this tradition in 1963. CattleWomen followed the Cattlemen in 1965, and Farm Bureau began in 1988,” said Farm Bureau Executive Director Paul Clark. “These recipients are all legacy contributors to our agricultural economy and culture. For four consecutive years, San Luis Obispo County total crop and livestock value has exceeded one billion dollars.”

Congratulations to Briley! We wish you the best of luck at fair this year! 🤩💛👏🏻

Today our very own Briley Bowen, was recognized as one of nine recipients of the San Luis Obispo CWA- California Women in Agriculture Senior Scholarships. Briley was personally presented a check from members of the scholarship committee, as well as a stall card recognizing her achievement, which will be on display alongside her heifer and bull projects at California Mid State Fair.
The Scholarship committee recognizes these students as ones who have plans to use his or her education to help promote agriculture, in particular the cattle industry. Most student recipients are active in clubs which promote beef, as well as the agricultural industry. Recipients also demonstrate leadership skills, and volunteer in their community.
