📣 The Harrison County School District will begin our Free Summer Feeding Program on June 1 with expanded options to help ensure that children across the community have access to nutritious meals throughout the summer months. ☀️

Along with traditional cafeteria service and the Mobile Dining Trailer, HCSD is introducing a new 7-Day Bulk Meal Pickup option designed to better serve busy families and help stretch grocery budgets further.

“We understand that both budgets and schedules are stretched thin, and we are here to help,” said Brad Barlow, Child Nutrition Director for Harrison County School District.

“Any child, regardless of where they attend school, can receive free summer meals at any of our sites. New this year are four locations that will be open one day per week to provide ‘bulk meal kits,’ which essentially contain seven days’ worth of breakfasts and lunches in one large box. This is a great solution for our families on the go or looking to stretch grocery dollars further. Sustaining these programs depends on the community’s support. We encourage everyone to help spread the word — or better yet, visit us this summer.”

🍎For more information about this new program, please visit the HCSD website: https://www.harrison.k12.ms.us/summerfeed.

To celebrate the end of the school year, our first and second graders enjoyed a fun Construction Worker Themed Day! Students learned about different jobs in construction while completing engaging math and ELA activities. They also had a great time making a special “dirt in a cup” dessert. A big thank you to all the parents who helped make this exciting day possible!

🍋📚 Our fourth graders just wrapped up their novel study of The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies!

Throughout the unit, students explored economics and retail sales through hands-on portfolio projects. To finish, they put their learning to work in a friendly “Lemonade Stand Poster Contest,” where groups designed and pitched their stands using key academic vocabulary to persuade our third graders.

After all the creative presentations—and a third-grade vote—the winning team was selected! Congratulations to all students for their effort, creativity, and real-world application of economic concepts! 🍋🏆
