Get to know Trustee Patrick McHeffey!
Trustee Patrick McHeffey is running in his first village election, after being appointed to fill the seat of now Village Clerk Lori Devlin in 2021. McHeffey became involved in Village government in order to help build a better world for the next generation, including his two young sons, Rex (3) and Rory (1). He feels it essential that younger community members become involved, learn from the successes of Mayor Pontieri and the Board of Trustees, and put in the work to build upon that legacy of success.
Trustee McHeffey is an accountant by trade with broad experience across the business world, having previously served as the Financial Controller of Blue Point Brewing Company, and as a business manager within his family's bakery, Nettie's. He earned a master's degree in Urban Affairs from Boston University. While earning his degree at night, McHeffey worked full time at an industry-leading Community Development Financial Institution, becoming involved in groundbreaking work, such as an initiative that helped stabilize urban neighborhoods faced with widespread foreclosures, and an initiative that built equity within low-income neighborhoods through innovative use of renewable energy. At the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, McHeffey launched a business that steered shopping toward local businesses, ultimately delivering locally-made foods to nearly 8,000 homes. In addition to supporting local businesses, McHeffey's efforts helped facilitate the donation of several hundred loaves of bread and gallons of milk to families in need.
Within Patchogue Village, Trustee McHeffey has focused upon pedestrian safety, becoming involved with efforts led by Trustee Keyes. Having served for several years prior as a member and Audit Chairperson of the village's Community Development Agency, McHeffey has brought to the Board of Trustees a financial understanding of village governance, as well as a comprehensive view of the everyday needs of village residents. If elected, he hopes to continue to improve the walkability, sustainability, and financial resilience of the Village of Patchogue.
