CANCELLATION NOTICE: The 9/11 Memorial Park cleanup scheduled for today has been cancelled.

This fall, as the nation marks the 25th Anniversary of September 11th, Mayor Andre Sayegh will be leading a community service project as part of a growing national movement to permanently transform the anniversary of 9/11 into America's Day of Doing Good.

9/11 Day is one of the largest days of charitable engagement in the U.S., inspiring millions of people each year to honor the victims, survivors, and heroes of September 11th through acts of service. The City of Paterson is incredibly proud to be a part of that mission this year.

Here's how you can get involved:
Volunteer with us — Sign up here: https://bit.ly/PatersonCleanUp
Spread the word — Share this with someone who wants to make a difference this September!
Follow along — Stay tuned for updates

Together, we can make this anniversary one of unity, purpose, and action. We hope you'll join us!

CITY OF PATERSON OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT—WEATHER WARNING FOR
PATERSON RESIDENTS:

Issued: Thursday, August 27, 2026
Threat Window: 1:00 PM-10:00 PM
Highest Risk: Late afternoon through sunset

Localized Flooding and Thunderstorm Risk Today:
Residents of Paterson should prepare for scattered thunderstorms and periods of heavy rain this afternoon and evening. Storm activity is expected to increase after 1:00 PM, with the greatest risk from late afternoon through sunset.

Even one or two slow-moving storms could produce heavy rainfall in a short period, causing:
• Street and roadway flooding
• Poor drainage in low-lying areas
• Rapid runoff and dangerous driving conditions
• Possible minor rises in streams and creeks
• Gusty winds of 40-50 mph
• A rare, isolated tornado
Rainfall is expected to average 0.30-0.60 inches, with locally higher amounts-possibly exceeding 2 inches in areas affected by repeated downpours.

What Residents Should Do:
• Avoid driving through flooded roads. Turn around-don't drown.
• Never walk, bike, or drive through moving or standing floodwater.
• Be alert for sudden flooding after intense bursts of rain, even if it is not raining heavily at your location.
• During thunderstorms, move indoors and stay away from windows.
• Secure loose outdoor items and charge mobile phones.
• Monitor official City of Paterson and emergency management updates.
• If flooding threatens your home, move to higher ground and call 911 for life-threatening emergencies.

Storms should become more localized this evening and mostly end by midnight. Continue to monitor conditions through approximately 10:00 PM, when the primary threat is expected to diminish.
