Thankfully, the NAACP is chiming in on the school closure plan. If it was about “fairness” please explain why NO SCHOOLS WERE CLOSED LAST YEAR. If it was fair wouldn’t schools have been closed in 2025 too? We have to stop mixing apples and oranges. There was NEVER an official vote to close schools and I will keep saying for as long as I have to. This decision is completely void of transparency and accountability. And if closing these schools was always in the playbook then why weren’t parents notified the day their children were accepted into those schools? No matter how you slice it THIS SCHOOL CLOSURE PLAN IS WRONG and the parents are going to make the district and especially the board understand this in real-time. Don’t believe me—JUST WATCH!!!!

The controversial plan to close four Paterson elementary schools and reconfigure grade levels for four others is facing a growing community backlash.

The resolution that ultimately failed by a 6-3 vote, introduced by Commissioner Corey Teague, sought to “recommit” any plan advancing the middle school model, school closures or structural changes, directing the superintendent to conduct a comprehensive review before any final action. It ultimately failed in a 6–3 vote.

Paterson board rejects halt to middle school model, closures & grade reconfig, advancing plan to close 4 schools. See impact on students & families.

This Black History Month, we honor not only the well-known names, but also the builders, inventors, and problem-solvers whose ideas continue to shape our everyday lives.

In 1896, Charles B. Brooks, an African American inventor and porter from New Jersey, patented an improved, self‑propelled street sweeper. His design introduced interchangeable brushes and scrapers, making it one of the earliest machines capable of clearing both everyday debris and heavy snow from city streets. At a time when opportunities were limited, Brooks engineered practical solutions that transformed urban life. His improvements helped cities maintain cleaner, safer streets — especially during harsh winters when snow and waste could quickly bring movement to a halt.

Paterson Public Schools is working against the clock to find teachers.A dynamic experience with many challenges is how Paterson’s superintendent of schools described her first year on the job. She is on a mission to find educators who fit the district’s needs before the new academic year begins in just two weeks.

Her family announced her death in a statement Friday, but did not specify a cause. The news, however, comes just over a month since the Texas Democrat revealed she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and had been undergoing treatment.

She was first elected to the House in 1994. Jackson Lee served on the House Judiciary, Homeland Security and Budget Committees. She was also chief deputy whip for the House Democrats and a vice chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

Her colleagues posted messages honoring the congresswoman’s tenure and offering condolences to her family.

PATERSON! As we review the outcome of Tuesday’s election results, it begs the question: do we really want change or not? Are we content with the status quo, or are we willing to challenge the norms and strive for a better future? Change requires effort, courage, and a collective commitment to progress. It necessitates stepping out of our comfort zones, confronting difficult truths, and embracing new possibilities. So, as we reflect on the results and consider the kind of city we want to see, let's ask ourselves: are we ready to be the agents of change, or are we resigned to simply watch from the sidelines? The choice is ours, and the impact of our decision reverberates far beyond ourselves.
