Last weekend in Haledon, I witnessed a car crash and, along with brave good Samaritans, helped pull the driver from a burning vehicle just moments before it was completely engulfed in flames. Their courage and quick action were nothing short of heroic. I also want to thank the Haledon Police and Paterson and Haledon Fire Departments for their swift and professional response. Our first responders and everyday heroes remind us what true bravery and community look like.

In what was a frantic scene in New Jersey, a car went up in flames after a crash. That driver was pulled out of the wreckage, and arrested moments later. First responders had some help at the scene, including from a local assembly member. NBC New York’s Adam Harding reports.

As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, I’m filled with pride reflecting on our first annual Hispanic Heritage Month Breakfast, which took place this weekend. Congratulations once again to all of our honorees whose leadership and service continue to uplift our community.

It is an honor to represent one of the most diverse and vibrant districts in New Jersey, a place where our shared heritage and unity make us stronger every day.

It was an honor to present Christ Temple Baptist Church of Paterson with a $250,000 check we secured for their new community recreation center. We worked hard to make sure this money made it into the state budget.

In partnership with Rev. Dr. Weldon M. McWilliams IV, who leads Christ Temple, and with the support of New Jersey General Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin, Senator Benjie Wimberly and Assemblywoman Shavonda Sumter, this investment will expand programs and create opportunities for our youth. We look forward to the outstanding work the church will continue to do for our community.

Today, we remember the innocent lives taken in an unimaginable tragedy 24 years ago. We honor the courage of the first responders and the resilience of a nation that came together in the face of darkness. Let us honor their sacrifice and reaffirm our vow to never forget.

Political violence is never justified and represents a grave threat to our democracy. The shooting of Charlie Kirk is an attack that must be universally condemned, regardless of politics or ideology. My prayers are with him, his loved ones, and everyone affected by this horrific act.

Exciting day in Garfield last week as we broke ground on a new 125,000-square-foot elementary school that will serve over 800 students. This $87.6 million dollar investment by the SDA, in partnership with local leaders, will give our children the safe and modern classrooms they need to succeed.

As an educator, I’ll continue fighting in Trenton to ensure every child has access to a high-quality education.
