City of Paterson Urban Enterprise Zone

The City of Paterson is one of New Jersey's original Urban Enterprise Zones.

The Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) is a state-designated program to alleviate unemployment and to enhance the economic climate in distressed cities throughout New Jersey. In fact, one of the founders of the United States, Alexander Hamilton, helped formulate the city as a hub for the country's growing industrial revolution. The Paterson UEZ was designated as an Urban Enterprise Zone in 1994 and plays

a vital role in the restoration of Paterson. The UEZ plays an integral part in Paterson's ongoing restoration and economic development, and is responsible for the renovation of the Paterson's Farmers' Market, which is the second oldest farmers' market in the state of New Jersey. Today, Paterson retains it's proud history and is making a true "silk to silicon" transformation. Central to this revitalization is the UEZ Program, enabling UEZ retail members to charge 3 1/2% sales tax giving them a competitive edge over other businesses.

🛑 Enhancing Safety Across Paterson’s Business Corridors

The Paterson Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) is investing in safer streets with the installation of 125 solar-powered LED stop signs throughout key commercial corridors and intersections.

These illuminated, solar-powered signs will improve visibility day and night, increase driver awareness, enhance pedestrian safety, and continue operating even during power outages. This initiative is another step toward creating safer, more accessible, and welcoming business districts for residents, visitors, employees, and local businesses.

Together, we’re continuing to invest in the future of Paterson! One project at a time.
