Summer Advantage: Focused Growth for Your Student

We are pleased to announce we will be hosting Summer Advantage (summer school) again this year!

This summer, Summer Advantage is doing things a little differently. We are offering a targeted summer program designed to give students the "extra edge" they need to strengthen skills for the upcoming school year.

Dates: June 2nd through June 30th Off June 19 (holiday)
When: Monday through Friday
Time: 8:00am - 12:00 noon
Where: River Valley HS (AE, SW, VE, RVM & RVHS) and
South Gallia HS (HT, SGM, SGHS)

By limiting the enrollment this year, the grant is focusing on providing a high-impact learning environment, that is a personalized experience by keeping the Summer Advantage program sizes small and teaching very intentional.

To ensure we are supporting students where it matters most, enrollment will be prioritized for those who can benefit from targeted growth in one or more the following areas:
● Credit Deficient & Recovery: Crossing that finish line for graduation! (grades 6-12)
● State Test Mastery: Extra coaching to ace those upcoming summer assessments.
○ Scored Limited or Basic on Ohio State Tests
● Reading & Math Growth: Focused sessions to boost literacy, master skills, and confidence.
○ Red in STAR Early Literacy, Reading, Math, or Acadience Testing
● Potential Retention: Grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade
● Absenteeism: those missing 10% of year (17+ days)
● Social Emotional Risk Factors

Students who attend 85% of the time (17 out of 20 days) will earn incentives! Your attendance matters. The attendance policy will not excuse sickness (nor doctor’s notes), funerals, tardies, early releases, nor excuse camps (only exception is the ESC-sponsored academic camps-Career Palooza, Art Camp). These will be counted as a day absent.

● $225 Clothing, $65 Shoes, $50 Backpack and school supplies
● Drivers education paid for

Our goal is to turn "I can't" into "I did!"

Several awards were presented at the most recent Gallia County Local Schools board meeting on Monday, April 27, 2026. Great things are happening at GCLS!

It's time for sports physicals! Free physicals will be happening, at SGHS and RVHS (for middle and high school athletes) soon. Please watch for paperwork and dates.

Also, don't forget about making sure that your child has a wellness check and that vaccines are up-to-date . The school based clinic at South Gallia is open and can meet your needs.

Congratulations, SGHS FCCLA!

The South Gallia FCCLA took 25 Members and two adults to the 2025-2026 Ohio State Convention in Columbus. SGHS voting delegates were Eli Dore, Jocelyn Stutler, and Heidi Swain. South Gallia received many awards and recognitions. Ryleigh Shafer was awarded her FCCLA State Degree, which is the highest honor an individual can receive through FCCLA. Additionally, SGHS received 2nd place in Ohio for the number of Community Service Hours recorded by the chapter as a whole. With around 300 chapters in Ohio, these two honors were very prestigious.
Other recognitions received by the SGHS Chapter were:

New members, new officers, and award winners will be recognized on May 12th at 1:00 pm in a ceremony in the South Gallia cafeteria. Parents and families are invited to attend and celebrate the 2025-2026 success.
