The City of Patterson has authorized Sinclair General Engineering Construction, Inc. to implement temporary lane closures at the intersection of Sperry Avenue and American Eagle Avenue to facilitate the demolition and construction activities of the undercrossing beneath the existing bridge structure in associated with the Salado Creek Bike Trail Phase I Project.

The lane closure extension will take place now through May 2026.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office would like to provide the following update about the recent officer involved shooting involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez on April 7th in the city of Patterson.

• After receiving treatment at a local hospital, Hernandez was released into the custody of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

• The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office provided a courtesy hold for Hernandez at the Public Safety Center on the evening of Monday, April 13.

• On the morning of April 14, Hernandez was transported by federal officers to Sacramento to appear before a United States Magistrate Judge.

• Hernandez was held to answer for a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 111(b): assaulting, resisting, and impeding federal officers while engaged in official duties with a dangerous or deadly weapon.

• Hernandez is in federal custody and no longer being housed in the Stanislaus County Jail.

• Officers with City of Turlock - Police Department conducted a traffic stop involving Hernandez on April 3, 2026. Family members have alleged that Turlock Police Department notified ICE of the traffic stop; however, no such notification was made. The Turlock Police Department had no involvement in this investigation before, during, or after the April 7 incident.

• This case continues to be investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as the lead agency with the assistance of the Sheriff's Office.

For more detailed information, here is a link to the press release U.S. Attorney's Office provided earlier this afternoon: https://www.justice.gov/usao-edca/pr/illegal-alien-el-salvador-charged-assault-federal-officer-deadly-weapon.

Federal Officer Involved Shooting Reported in Patterson

On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at about 6:30 a.m., Stanislaus County dispatchers received a report from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers regarding an officer-involved shooting in the area of Sperry Avenue and Interstate 5 in Patterson. Deputies from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office immediately responded to the scene and assisted in securing the area by blocking roadways. Fire and paramedic personnel also responded to provide medical assistance.

No deputies from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office were injured or involved in the shooting.
Because this incident involves a federal agency and does not involve any local law enforcement as involved parties, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has assumed primary responsibility for the investigation. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit will be conducting an investigation. The closure of the Interstate 5 on and off ramps at Sperry Avenue remains in effect and there is currently no estimated time for reopening. We will provide an update once the road closures have been lifted and the ramps are reopened.

We are aware of the information released by Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons; however, we have no further details to provide regarding our involvement at this time. All media inquiries will be handled by the FBI.

Thank you to the California Highway Patrol and Caltrans for assisting with road closures.

Good morning Patterson,

As we enjoy this beautiful Easter Sunday with our families, let us never forget the everlasting love that Christ has for us that he showed with his sacrifice in the garden of Gethsemane, his crucifixion and finally his ultimate sacrifice on the cross.

On this day he triumphed over death and ascended into heaven giving us the opportunity for everlasting life.

May this day renew our faith, strengthen our families, and inspire us to serve one another with grace and gratitude.

From my family to yours, may the peace of Christ fill your hearts and homes.

Happy Easter, Patterson.

Ribbon-cutting Ceremony Marks the Expansion of Growing Hair Salon
By Galacea Gazcón – Intern Reporter

Apricot Beauty Studio, owned by businesswoman Elizabeth Padilla Gutierrez, has moved
locations to support its growth as more clients fall in love with the care offered by all the hair stylists who work there. Elizabeth Gutierrez has always loved to work in the beauty industry and manage her own business. Before moving to Patterson, she lived in San Mateo, where she owned a full service salon by the Hillsdale mall. There she made great connections with her clients, some of which have stayed loyal and have continued their support as locations changed.
Along with the expansion of her salon, Gutierrez has joined the Patterson-Westly Chamber of Commerce. Board President, Kandance Weyhrauch, congratulated Elizabeth with her
expansion and welcomed her to the community, “Super excited you joined the chamber and became part of the team.” Gutierrez expressed that she feels very appreciative because, “It’s like I'm not working, it feels like nature. I feel very blessed to do what I do because when you do what you love, you never work a day in your life”. Thanks to the support of her husband, kids, and longtime clients, Elizabeth Gutierrez overcame the challenges of moving to Patterson from the Bay and starting over. One piece of advice Gutierrez has learned from her experience is to never give up what you love. You can visit the salon at their location at 1015 Sperry Avenue Unit C or on Instagram and Facebook under the name Apricot Beauty Studio.
