🌱 Big news for Van Buren County agriculture!

We’re excited to share that Van Buren County has been awarded a $312,600 grant from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) to permanently preserve 219 acres of the Druskovich farm in Hamilton Township for agricultural use.

This sixth-generation family farm will continue producing local favorites like corn, strawberries, and gladiolas for years to come, helping protect the farming heritage that makes our county so special.

This is especially meaningful as Van Buren County has lost nearly 44,000 acres of farmland over the past decade. This grant marks the first farmland preserved through this MDARD program here since 2008, and we’re just getting started.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this possible and helping protect the future of local agriculture! πŸšœπŸ“πŸŒ½

🌟 Exciting News for Van Buren County Families! 🌟
We are thrilled to share that the Van Buren Youth Initiative (VBYI) is growing and bringing more opportunities to our students than ever before!

Our local commitment to after-school programs is paying off. For every $1 of county funding invested, we have already seen a $1.11 return in value for our community. This success helped us secure a massive $1,012,860 state grant to expand programs in eight of our local school districts:

βœ… Bloomingdale

βœ… Decatur

βœ… Gobles

βœ… Hartford

βœ… Lawrence

βœ… Lawton

βœ… Mattawan

βœ… South Haven

What does this mean for our kids?
It means more arts, more music, and more technology! Thanks to new grants from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and the South Haven Area Community Foundation, local artists and new tech equipment are heading straight to our classrooms. Plus, our Summer Van Buren Migrant and Multilingual Program will receive extra support to keep students engaged all year long.

Our students say these programs give them "something to look forward to" and the "freedom of art." We are so proud of the teamwork making this possible for every student in Van Buren County!
