The Paw Paw Fire Protection District serves and protects approximately 72 square miles in the southeast corner of Lee County and a portion of DeKalb County as well. We provide emergency Fire & Medical Services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week all provided by men and women of your community who volunteer their time when their neighbors need them the most.
But like all rural volunteer Fire Departments, we are in need of help to continue to provide the emergency services that are provided when needed.
Might you be the next Firefighter or EMT to answer the call. On the job training provided, and applications are now being accepted. We have jobs for everyone and any time you can provide is a great help.

Volunteer and career departments say recruiting enough firefighters and paramedics has become one of their biggest challenges

We stand with our Brothers and Sisters of the DeKalb Fire Department during such a difficult time. Our prayers go out to them as they continue to bravely serve their community and miss one of their own. We also offer the deepest condolences to the family of this Firefighter/Paramedic and the entire DeKalb community.

The City of DeKalb regrets to inform the community of the tragic passing of one of our firefighter/paramedics on Monday, April 6, 2026. Our focus remains on supporting the firefighter’s family, friends, and our department members during this difficult time.

The DeKalb Fire Department sincerely appreciates the support and understanding of the community. Funeral arrangements are pending. Please respect the privacy of the family as they navigate this difficult time.

Our hearts are heavy with the loss of a brave firefighter who dedicated his life to protecting others. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office extends our deepest sympathies and prayers to his family, friends, and fellow firefighters. His courage, service, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
