MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND SAFETY LETTER
Dear Osage Nation Members,
As we approach Memorial Day Weekend, the Osage Nation Public Safety Division would like to encourage everyone to celebrate safely and responsibly while honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Memorial Day weekend is often filled with family gatherings, travel, outdoor activities, and community events. During this busy holiday period, we ask all residents and visitors to remain mindful of safety precautions to help protect yourselves, your families, and our community.
Please remember the following safety tips:
• Always wear your seatbelt and ensure children are properly secured in approved child safety seats.
• Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Designate a sober driver or use alternative transportation if needed.
• Stay alert and avoid distracted driving, including texting while operating a vehicle.
• Practice water safety while boating or swimming, and ensure life jackets are worn when appropriate.
• Use caution with outdoor cooking, campfires, and grilling equipment to help prevent accidental fires.
• Stay hydrated and be mindful of changing weather conditions during outdoor activities.
• Check on elders, neighbors, and family members who may need assistance during the holiday weekend.
Our public safety personnel, including law enforcement, emergency management, and fire services, will remain committed to serving and protecting the community throughout the holiday weekend.
On behalf of the Osage Nation Public Safety Division, we wish everyone a safe, respectful, and meaningful Memorial Day Weekend as we honor those who gave their lives in service to our nation.

Respectfully,

Nicholas J. Williams
Secretary of Public Safety
Osage Nation Public Safety Division

The Osage Nation Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Charlie Cartwright, Osage County District 3 Commissioner.

Commissioner Cartwright dedicated his life to public service, spending more than four decades serving the people of Osage County with honor, integrity, and unwavering commitment. His leadership, wisdom, and steady presence earned the respect of countless law enforcement officers, public servants, and community members throughout the county.

Charlie’s legacy will be remembered not only through his years of service, but through the lives he impacted, the relationships he built, and the example he set for others to follow. He was a man who cared deeply for his community and worked tirelessly to make a difference.

We stand with his family and loved ones during this difficult time and ask that our community keep them in their thoughts and prayers.

Rest easy, Commissioner Cartwright. Your service and dedication will never be forgotten.

“ On April 9,2026 ONPD was tasked with an event that called most of us back into work after normal business hours!”
After the event ONPD would like to express our appreciation and thoughtfulness from our community.
“We extend our deepest appreciation and sincere thanks to both our law enforcement personnel (OHP, U.S. Marshal service) and the civilians (ONPD personnel and ON Tax Commission, and ONIT) who stepped forward to offer support during a time of need.
To our officers: your willingness to answer the call—no matter the hour—reflects a level of dedication and courage that does not go unnoticed. Working late into the night under demanding circumstances takes strength, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to the safety of others. We are truly grateful for your service and sacrifice.
To the members of our community: your readiness to lend a hand, provide meals, and offer support during those long hours exemplifies the very best of who we are. Your kindness and generosity made a meaningful difference, ensuring that our officers could continue their work with the care and support they needed.
It is through this partnership—between those who serve and those who support—that our community remains strong. Thank you all for your compassion, dedication, and unity in a time when it mattered most.
