Georgetown County is funding $3,188,000 - it will provide 16,762 gross square
We need TO RAISE $1,000,000 to COMPLETE the VISION
The TLC Challenge:
Libraries matter! Here in Georgetown County, the library plays a vital role in community life as a key resource for children and families, our businesses and our many community organizations. Our public library supports a lifelong process of reading
and learning, and opens the doors to imagination, creativity and to the world. Since the first public library was established in Georgetown in 1799, we have continually expanded our services and have established a tradition of excellence. Our current Waccamaw facility is no longer adequate to serve the public’s changing expectations. The facility cannot be further enlarged or renovated to the degree needed to meet current needs, and certainly not future requirements. To continue our tradition of outstanding service, we must build a new public library center. Our county government has acknowledged the need, prioritized the library functions, and allocated the resources to replace the obsolete facility. Technology is increasingly important, and our workforce must become better trained. The library’s efforts should complement our public schools in order to serve our young people. We must also continue to develop programs and services for an ever-increasing population of retirees and older adults. By investing our resources wisely, we will be able to maintain a strong, vibrant community that provides a healthy mix of good jobs and a high quality of life. We have untertaken an extensive planning process to make the vision of our new library center a reality. We have preliminary designs for a new building, with ample space in a modern, flexible arrangement. We also have an ideal site – centrally located on Willbrook Boulevard – spacious and integrated within a quiet and beautiful natural environment. Building the new library center there will both enhance the vitality of our growing town center and provide attractive multipurpose outdoor areas. We hope that you will join in the county-wide effort underway to create The Library Center-Waccamaw and to help develop a heart for our community. We look forward to working with you on this exciting project. Sincerely,
