Strong winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph, and max temperatures climbing into the middle to upper 80s, will lead to elevated to critical grassland fire danger today. A Red Flag warning has been issued for portions of central Kansas, as afternoon relative humidity values fall to around 20 percent.

Windy and warm through Thursday, turning much cooler by Thursday night-Friday and continued windy. The strong winds will support elevated grassfire danger. A chance for thunderstorms Thursday afternoon-evening, some of which may be strong-severe.

Gusty south winds and low relative humidity will result in very high grassland fire danger for much of the area for today and especially Friday. Outdoor burning is not recommended and be sure to be mindful of anything that may cause a spark.

On Friday, September 22, 2023 Fire Department members did an inventory on Pumper 1312. In the process of inventory all hose on the apparatus was stretched and laid out. The pumper was then hooked up to the hydrant to test the pumper function. Thank you to all members who participated.

On Sunday, September 24, 2023, Pawnee Rock Fire was paged out to a combine fire at SW 80th Ave and SW 40th Rd. Upon arrival fire crews found the fire to be mostly extinguished by the farmer, however further water needed to be applied to completely extinguish the fire. The fire was contained and minimal damage was reported. Pawnee Rock Fire Department responded with 2 trucks and 8 firefighters to help extinguish this fire. Thank you to all firefighters involved, Barton County Dispatch, and Barton County Sheriff's Office for responding.
