..FUNNEL CLOUDS SIGHTED OVER CENTRAL ILLINOIS...

At 315 PM, broadcast media and Emergency Management personnel reported
additional funnel clouds over parts of central Illinois.

Atmospheric conditions exist that favor the possible formation
of weak circulations along pre-existing boundaries. Some of these
circulations are occurring underneath developing showers and
thunderstorms, where a funnel cloud may develop. Once the rain
begins, the funnel cloud usually dissipates.

Low hanging clouds can also appear to dip up and down at times,
but they will not show signs of any rapid rotation. An actual
funnel cloud will exhibit spinning in a counter-clockwise direction.

In rare instances these funnels may briefly touch down. Stay alert
and be prepared to move to a safe shelter if a funnel cloud
approaches the ground.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT:
At 1258 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Chandlerville to near Alexander to Woodson. Movement was east at 40 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Springfield, Jacksonville, Petersburg, Athens, Chatham, Alexander, Auburn, Sherman, New Berlin, Ashland, Waverly, Divernon, Pleasant Plains, Loami, Franklin, Murrayville, Woodson, Tallula, Illinois State Fairgrounds, and Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport. Those attending the Illinois State Fair are in the path of these storms and should prepare for IMMINENT DANGEROUS WEATHER CONDITIONS. This includes the following highways... Interstate 55 between mile markers 79 and 106. Interstate 72 between mile markers 66 and 104.

This next round of storms is in Illinois, approaching the Peoria area. It is angling towards us, and may well stay north and east. Once again, high winds and heavy rain are the main concerns. Stay weather aware through this evening folks!!
