..STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL IMPACT CHRISTIAN...SOUTHERN SANGAMON...
NORTHWESTERN SHELBY AND SOUTHWESTERN MACON COUNTIES THROUGH 815 PM
CDT...

At 743 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from near Loami to Moweaqua. Movement was southeast
at 25 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.

Locations impacted include...
Springfield, Taylorville, Chatham, Auburn, Rochester, Pawnee,
Moweaqua, Kincaid, Divernon, Assumption, Blue Mound, Edinburg,
Stonington, Owaneco, Jeisyville, Jerome, Southern View, Leland Grove,
Thayer, and Tovey.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 55 between mile markers 77 and 97.
Interstate 72 between mile markers 87 and 103.

This also includes Sangchris Lake State Park.

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

At 722 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from near Pleasant Plains to near Blue Mound.
Movement was southeast at 15 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include...
Springfield, Taylorville, Chatham, Auburn, Sherman, Rochester,
Riverton, Pawnee, Moweaqua, Kincaid, New Berlin, Divernon, Blue
Mound, Edinburg, Stonington, Pleasant Plains, Loami, Mechanicsburg,
Dawson, and Buffalo.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 55 between mile markers 80 and 102.
Interstate 72 between mile markers 83 and 120.

This also includes Sangchris Lake State Park.

A line of storms will fire up in northern Il this afternoon then drop south. Damaging winds are possible.

Update on the expected weather coming in....later in the evening/overnight now.

Remember to have means to receive emergency warnings; the outdoor sirens are designed to alert those individuals who are outdoors!

A stormy night lies ahead. Below is future cast radar around 11PM. Storms will ignite after 6PM and continue into the overnight. Our main concern is southern IL where flooding is a concern in addition to damaging winds.

Strong storms are possible further north too closer to Springfield. Further north towards Peoria, storms will be less severe but contain downpours.

Have a way to receive warnings tonight if you live in southern parts.

12:20PM Severe Weather Update: Instability and moisture is building ahead of an incoming MCV(Mesoscale Convective System) moves in.

Storms should fire up ahead of it, mainly south of Springfield.

Thinking storms will fire up after 2PM then race east across south central and southern IL. Main hazard is damaging winds.

The extreme heat warning has been extended to Saturday night by the NWS. Same deal, 11am - 7pm.

Storm chances return this afternoon in the state. These will move west to east and may carry some strong wind gusts.

Overall only 40-50% will see a storm.

The extreme heat warning has been extended until 7pm Friday night.

There is also wet and stormy weather creeping into forecasts for Friday night/Saturday morning.
