For more than 70 years, Suzanne Poole’s connection to the Red Cross has been rooted in helping others, first as a blood donor, then as a blood drive volunteer and, along the way, inspiring the next generation of her family to serve.

Recently, at 92 years young, Suzanne was once again lending a hand, this time alongside her daughter, Lyn Hruska, Executive Director of the Central Illinois Chapter, as Red Cross volunteers distributed emergency cleanup supplies to families in Paxton, IL who were impacted by severe storms.

Suzanne summed up her remarkable Red Cross journey beautifully:

“I’ve given a lot to the Red Cross over the years. I’ve given my blood, I’ve given my time, but the most important thing I think I’ve given them is a good person to do their business.”

That “good person” is her daughter. ❤️

Thank you to Suzanne, Lyn, Midwest Food Bank and all the volunteers and partners who make it possible for the Red Cross to be there for our neighbors when they need us most.

Shower and thunderstorm chances will increase this afternoon and evening. An isolated stronger storm can't be ruled out. Would not be surprised to see some funnel cloud reports around the area as well due to the proximity of the low passing through. More of the same tomorrow!

Forecast confidence is gradually increasing as we continue monitoring a weather system expected to move through the Midwest late this week. At this time, Friday afternoon through Saturday morning remains the primary window for scattered showers and thunderstorms across Region 9. While a few storms could become strong with locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds, the exact placement and intensity of thunderstorms will depend on how the atmosphere evolves over the next 24 to 48 hours. Residents, event organizers, and agricultural interests should use this as an early heads-up rather than a final forecast. Additional forecast updates will refine storm timing, rainfall coverage, and any potential impacts as newer data become available. Stay informed through Region 9 Weather for the latest updates
