🔥 THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING BACKDRAFT BASH! 🔥

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out last night and helped make Backdraft Bash such a great night! We hope everyone had a blast enjoying the music, food, drinks, and spending time with friends, family, and the Paynesville Fire Department.

Diesel Fire absolutely rocked the night, and The Johnny Holm Band was a HUGE hit! Both bands brought incredible energy and kept the crowd going all night long!

We also want to give a BIG thank you to all of our amazing sponsors. Your support helps make events like this possible, and we truly appreciate everything you do for our department and our community!

Most of all, thank you to everyone who showed up, supported us, and made Backdraft Bash one to remember.

Look, we spend most of our time telling you not to start fires, but on Saturday, August 22, we’re making an exception for the heat coming from the stage. The Paynesville Backdraft Bash Concert is back, and we need you there to support the Paynesville Fire Department and the Paynesville Chamber of Commerce!

Here is the lowdown so you don't miss a single second:

EVENT DETAILS

When: Saturday, August 22, 2026
Where: Paynesville Airport (1500 Airport Rd)

Admission: $10 (cash or card at the entrance - card will have a small service fee)

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

3:00 PM – Bean Bag Tournament Registration

4:00 PM – Bean Bag Tournament kicks off (time to prove your backyard practice wasn't a waste)

5:30 PM – 8:30 PM – Diesel Fire takes the stage (Sponsored by Foxtail Utilities)

9:00 PM – 12:00 AM – Johnny Holm Band bringing down the house (Sponsored by Highline Construction)

Last night, the Paynesville Fire Department spent the evening training on Search & Rescue.

While search and rescue are often talked about together, our firefighters focused on understanding the two skills separately and how they work together on the fireground.

Crews worked on:
- More efficient room-search techniques
- Locating and rescuing downed victims
- Techniques for moving and removing victims from dangerous environments
- Communication between search teams and fire attack teams
- Maintaining situational awareness and coordination while operating inside a structure

Effective search and rescue takes more than knowing where to look- it requires teamwork, communication, speed, and the ability to make good decisions in a rapidly changing environment.

The goal is simple: find them, get them out, and bring everyone home.

Great work by our members putting in the time and effort to sharpen these skills!

What an incredible evening at Paynesville Night to Unite!

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to visit with us, the Paynesville Police Department, and CentraCare EMS. It was great seeing so many familiar faces, meeting new ones, and watching the kids explore the fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, and all the activities.

Events like this are a great reminder that we’re more than the people who respond when someone calls 911.. we’re your neighbors, friends, and fellow community members. We truly appreciate the opportunity to spend an evening with the people we have the privilege of serving.

A special thank you to everyone who helped organize another fantastic Night to Unite.

Thank you for your continued support of your Police, Fire, and EMS. We hope you had as much fun as we did, and we can’t wait to see you again next year!

Okay… we’re not trying to be that department that keeps reminding everyone… 😅 but we’d really love to see you at Paynesville Night to Unite!

Join us Tuesday, August 4th, from 5:00–7:00 PM at Gazebo Park for free food, games, the splash pad, Touch-a-Truck, and a chance to meet your local Police, Fire, and EMS.

Bring the kids to check out the fire trucks… and, we suppose, the police cars too. 😏🚒🚓

In all seriousness, this is one of our favorite events of the year because we get to spend time with the community we serve. Whether you stop by for five minutes or stay the whole evening, we’d love to see you.

We promise this is one of our last reminders… probably. 😉 See you Tuesday!

🚨 FIRE BLOTTER 🚨

Today (7/26/2026) at approximately 1:51 PM, the Paynesville Fire Department was paged to a reported gas leak near Mill Street.

As we were coming out of the structure in full turnout gear, one of the nearby neighbors greeted us with several pitchers of ice water and paper cups. By the time we returned to the fire hall, the temperature was reading 98–100°F. Wearing full firefighting gear in that kind of heat takes a toll, and the ice-cold water was greatly appreciated.

To the thoughtful neighbor who took the time to look out for us - thank you. Your kindness meant a great deal to our crew.

We’re proud to serve a community that looks out for one another. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and check on your neighbors during this extreme heat.

Tonight, the Paynesville Fire Department had a training focused on firefighter survival and rapid intervention skills. We practiced emergency window escape techniques, including head-first window exits when fire conditions make the normal route impossible, as well as hanging safely from a window while waiting for a ladder during an urgent escape.

This training also included MAYDAY scenarios. In the fire service, a MAYDAY is an emergency radio transmission used by a firefighter who is trapped, lost, disoriented, injured, or otherwise in immediate danger. Declaring a MAYDAY quickly brings additional resources to locate and rescue that firefighter. We practiced recognizing when to call a MAYDAY, communicating critical information over the radio, and performing self-survival techniques while waiting for rescue.

We also sharpened our Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) skills by locating and rescuing simulated downed, lost, or disoriented firefighters, as well as firefighters who had run out of air. Using a RIT pack, crews practiced making emergency air connections and removing firefighters from hazardous environments as quickly and safely as possible.

These are skills we hope we never have to use on the fireground, but if that day comes, every second matters. Regular training builds confidence, reinforces muscle memory, and helps ensure that every firefighter has the best possible chance of making it home.

Paynesville Night to Unite is coming up!

Join us Tuesday, August 4th from 5–7 PM at Gazebo Park for an evening of food, fun, and community connection.

Come meet your local Police, Fire, and EMS crews, enjoy free food and beverages served by the Paynesville Lions, and bring the kids for games, the splash pad, and Touch-a-Truck!
Events like this are one of the best parts of living in a small town - getting to know the people who serve our community and spending time with friends and neighbors.

We hope to see you there!

Today, we celebrate the freedoms we are so fortunate to enjoy and honor the men and women -past and present- who have sacrificed to protect them.

As you spend the day with family, friends, and neighbors, we hope it’s filled with laughter, good food, and memories that will last a lifetime. Small-town traditions like parades, backyard barbecues, and fireworks remind us just how special this community is.

If you’re celebrating with fireworks, please do so responsibly. Keep a safe distance, have a water source nearby, and never leave children unattended around fireworks. And remember: if you’re celebrating with a few drinks, have a safe and sober ride home. Call a friend, use a designate a sober driver.

While many of us will be celebrating with our own families, our firefighters will also be ready to answer the call if someone needs help. It is an honor to serve this incredible community.

We want to see two thumbs up from everyone on Monday! Keep all your fingers (and eyebrows), celebrate responsibly, and have a safe Fourth of July!

At approximately 10:47 this morning, our firefighters responded to an electrical hazard near Old Lake Rd after a tree fell onto a power line, causing it to catch fire. While the power line remained intact, we remained on scene until Xcel Energy arrived to safely secure the hazard.

During that time, a couple of the property owners in the neighborhood went out of their way to bring our crew cold water, snacks, and even sandwiches.

Acts of kindness like this never go unnoticed. Your thoughtfulness and generosity meant a lot to us during a long day on scene.

From all of us at the Paynesville Fire Department, thank you for your incredible support. We’re proud to serve such an amazing community.
