I’ve received many communications about the zoning amendments the Industrial and Community Development Committee will discuss this evening.

To clarify, these are requests from private property owners. This is the first step when a request like this is received. The Committee will discuss the amendments. Then the amendments need to be sent to the Planning Board, and a public hearing needs to be set for the Council.

When that public hearing is set, abutter notifications will go out and the public comment will be taken during the hearing.

No Council vote to adopt or reject any changes can be made on these items yet.

Edit: Due to the elevator being down at City Hall, the Council meetings will be held in the lower level conference room at City Hall.

🚧 Central Street Detours 7/7-7/10

Primary Detours

Outbound Traffic (Peabody Center to Wilson Square)
Traffic traveling from Peabody Center toward Wilson Square will be detoured as follows:
● Right onto Walnut Street
● Left onto Harris Street
● Continue to Tremont Street
● Follow Tremont Street back to Central Street beyond the MDR Construction work zone
Inbound Traffic (Wilson Square to Peabody Center)

Traffic traveling from Wilson Square toward Peabody Center will be detoured as follows:
● Right onto Warren Street
● Left onto Endicott Street
● Continue toward Lowell Street

Secondary Detours

Traffic traveling on Warren Street toward Central Street will be detoured at Crowninshield Street toward Lowell Street.
● Warren Street will be closed at Crowninshield Street - open to residents and businesses only.

🚧 Central Street 6/30 & 7/1

Please be advised of the following update today, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, regarding the ongoing moving installation operation of the new water system.

Work Zone Traffic Flow

Inbound Traffic (From Wilson Square Toward Peabody Center)
· Inbound traffic open one lane of passage all the way through.
· Police details will assist with alternating traffic as needed.

Outbound Traffic (From Peabody Center Toward Wilson Square)
· Outbound traffic will take a left onto Warren, right onto Endicott, all the way to Wilson Square

Buses, trucks, and Emergency Vehicles are getting through via Central Street.

Salem inbound Traffic at Tremont
· Tremont closed at Wallace
· Detour signage will be placed at Warren Street to Elm Street back to Central

REMINDERS
Please follow all posted signs and police instructions.
Expect delays during peak travel times.
Use caution when driving near workers and equipment.
Updates will be provided if weather or unexpected conditions require changes

If the Council votes on the FY27 Budget June 23rd, the Finance Committee meeting Thursday will be cancelled and the City Council meeting will begin at 7:30PM.
