Anson County Lifts County-Wide Boil Water Advisory
Following Successful Water System Restoration

WADESBORO, NC – Anson County Government, in coordination with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ), has lifted the Boil Water Advisory effective immediately for customers served directly by the Anson County water system in the unincorporated areas of Anson County. The County also supplies treated water to the municipal water systems serving Ansonville, Lilesville, McFarlan, Morven, Peachland, Polkton, and Wadesboro. While the County provides treated water to these municipalities, each municipality is responsible for issuing and lifting advisories for its own water distribution system. Customers served by municipal water systems should follow guidance issued by their respective municipality regarding any local Boil Water Advisories.

The advisory was lifted following the completion of repairs to the county’s water system, restoration of system pressure, extensive flushing operations, and multiple rounds of water quality testing. Laboratory results have confirmed that the water system meets all applicable state drinking water requirements and is safe for normal water use.

“Restoring water service was only the first part of the process; ensuring that water was safe for our residents was the priority,” said Nick Addison, Assistant County Manager & Planning Director. “Our teams and partners worked continuously to repair, stabilize, flush, and test the system so we could confidently lift the Boil Water Advisory once water quality requirements were met. This response required an extraordinary level of coordination, and I am grateful for the commitment shown by our utility crews, county employees, local governments, partner agencies, contractors, and residents. The patience and cooperation of our community played an important role in allowing us to safely complete this recovery effort.”

Since the water system failure occurred, more than 40 agencies, organizations, and private-sector partners have assisted with response and recovery efforts. Assistance included emergency water distribution, technical support, water system repairs, laboratory testing, traffic control, emergency management coordination, and direct assistance to affected residents.

Throughout the response, logistical teams successfully received and distributed more than 300 pallets of bottled water to residents across Anson County. County officials extend their sincere gratitude to the volunteer fire departments, utility professionals, local governments, state agencies, non-profit partnerships, private sector, and numerous individuals who contributed to the community response throughout this incident.

“The past several days have tested our community, but they have also shown what makes Anson County special,” said Jamie Caudle, Chairman of the Anson County Board of Commissioners. “I want to thank our residents for their patience and their willingness to work together during this difficult time. I am especially grateful to our utility crews, county employees, volunteer fire departments, state partners, local governments, and businesses who answered the call and worked tirelessly to help our neighbors. Your dedication and commitment to this community did not go unnoticed.”

“The response to this incident began within hours of the initial system failure and continued until safe drinking water was restored to our community,” said Rodney Diggs, Emergency Services Chief. “Through the support of our emergency management partners, state agencies, local governments, volunteer fire departments, non-profit partners, and private-sector organizations, we were able to bring an extraordinary amount of resources to Anson County. Their commitment and coordination were critical to helping our community recover.”

While the Boil Water Advisory has been lifted, customers may continue to notice a chlorine odor or taste in the water as a result of the disinfection process used during system restoration. This is expected and remains within safe drinking water standards.

Anson County will continue normal operations of the water system and will work with its partners to complete a comprehensive After-Action Review of the incident. The review will evaluate the response, identify lessons learned, and determine opportunities to strengthen future emergency response and public communication efforts.

Anson County Government thanks all residents for their patience, cooperation, and resilience during this unprecedented water emergency.

Effective at 7:00pm on Saturday, July 18, 2026 the Town of Peachland will be lifting the Boil Water Advisory. Over the past 48 hours we have sent 8 test off to independent testing centers and we have had zero positive results for harmful bacteria which is exactly what we hoped for! I do want to take a moment to thank everyone for their support during this trying time and say a special thank you to our wonderful town employees for the many extra hours they put in over the past week to get us to this point. Good afternoon Town of Peachland. Several of you have asked for an update on the current water situation and Boil Advisory. Currently, water pressure is back and flowing good.

🚨However, We are still under a Boil Advisory as the process for testing and treating water is underway.🚨

Please know that as soon as I’m informed of the Boil Advisory being lifted, I will let everyone know.

Water Update from the Desk of the Mayor:

Our water tank in Peachland has commenced refilling, and as a result, crews will be dispatched throughout Peachland to open fire hydrants. Opening the hydrants enables the lines to flush out accumulated air; if not, the air pressure will follow the path of least resistance, potentially causing our water lines and personal water lines to rupture. As your water service is restored, please be advised to follow the Boil Notice below.

Water Update From the Desk of the Mayor:

The Town is experiencing a gradual restoration of water services. However, given Peachland's location as the westernmost town in the county, the water supply must fill every line between the town and the break, a process that is taking some time. As evening approached, increased water demand east of our location slowed the system's recovery and re-pressurization efforts.

As your water service is restored, I strongly encourage everyone to conserve water whenever possible until the system is fully operational and normal pressures have been achieved throughout the town.

Update From the Desk of the Mayor:

Although the pipe has been repaired, it is anticipated that the water lines in the Town of Peachland will not begin to refill and pressure will not return until later this evening or tomorrow. Currently, our water tank has approximately 1 hour of water remaining. Regrettably, this means that the town may experience a temporary water shortage as the lines continue to fill. As the situation unfolds, I will provide ongoing updates. Please be reminded of the Boil Water Advisory below.

From the desk of the Mayor:

As of 4:30 this morning, the water line has been repaired and water is being turned back on. It will take some time for the water to fill all the lines back to this end of the county and for the water to return to normal pressure.

Currently, the Town of Peachland has around 10,000 gallons of water left in the water tank, this is important to know as we will not be able to refill the tank until the water pressure returns. The current water conservation method we used as a town ensured that the town did not run out of water, needs to continue until the tank can begin to refill.

I would like to say thank you to the Fire Department and their volunteers for managing the water distribution last night, and to the crews who worked through the night to fix this major break. To all the citizens of Peachland, THANK YOU. With your efforts the town was able to maintain water.

PLEASE BE AWARE, that as water service is restored, consumers are advised to boil all water used for human consumption or use bottled water until further notice. This includes water used for:
• Drinking
• Making ice
• Brushing teeth
• Washing dishes
• Food preparation

Water should be brought to a vigorous boil for at least one (1) minute before use. This process should eliminate any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water. This advisory will remain in effect until further written notification is issued.

I will keep you updated throughout the day as the water continues to fill the lines.

Town of Peachland, the timeline for restoring water in Anson County has been pushed back to 1:00am. For those that live within Peachland city limits, we are now at approximately 6 hours remaining for water usage in our town’s tank. Please continue to put your best effort forward in conserving water. Bottles of water are now being given away at the Peachland Volunteer Fire Department; two cases per household. Please stop by and utilize their efforts. Stay tuned for more updates as I will work to keep all informed.
