Good Morning!

Due to current, ongoing dry conditions and this week's weather forecast, which includes a high risk of dangerous wildfire spread.

Giles County has declared a local emergency and put a burn ban in effect as of 12 noon today.

We will be launching a CodeRed call shortly and sharing the word out through local media and social media. Please help spread the word.

Update from Giles County-Worst of impacts from snow appear to be forecasted for tomorrow. Extreme Cold and Wind Sunday.

Threats:
Winter storm with accumulating snow.
Strong winds and dangerously low wind chills after storm concludes.

Timing: Today through Sunday morning for the snow, Saturday night through Sunday for the strong winds and low wind chills.

Overview and Impacts:
Low pressure system develops along the North Carolina coast this evening to bring snow for today through early Sunday
Snowfall amounts of 4"-8" are expected south of Route 460, while only 1"-4" of snow is expected along and north of Route 460

Travel becoming hazardous due to the snow, a strong wind during Saturday night into Sunday causing blowing and drifting snow that will reduce visibility.

The strong northwest wind may blow down tree branches, which could cause isolated power outages

Dangerously low wind chills during Saturday night through Monday morning with values below zero areawide.
