Commercial Pesticide Recertification Opportunity

Virginia Cooperative Extension is hosting a single-day Commercial Pesticide Recertification on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Virginia Tech’s Etgen Large Animal Learning Center (across from Alphin Stuart Livestock Arena) Blacksburg, Virginia.

Commercial recertification categories include 3A, 3B, 6, 10, and 60.

Pre-register with the Floyd County Extension Office no later than May 29th.

Registration is $20 per person, and applicators should bring their commercial pesticide license to the program.

Registration 7:30 AM with program beginning promptly at 8:00 AM. We look forward to seeing you there.

Food preservation methods such as canning, fermentation, dehydration and freezing are great ways to preserve our food so that they last throughout the year! Make sure that you are doing it safely by attending Virginia Cooperative Extension's Food Preservation Conference on August 1st, 2026 at the Wytheville Meeting Center. Pick from over 15 sessions from beginning water bath canning to curing a ham!

As of May 14th, 26% of Virginia is now categorized as D3 (extreme drought) according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Many of our seasoned producers are commenting that this is the driest they've seen the area this early in the year.

Many are choosing to forego harvesting the first cutting of hay due to reduced yield and diesel costs to run equipment.

Farming has always been a gamble as producers are at the whim of Mother Nature. It's important to check in on your farming neighbors. The stress is never ending, and the acknowledgement of such stress often gets overlooked.
