Woods Fire Update - 2:30pm - 4/12/26

We want to provide a quick follow‑up on the woods fire from yesterday that impacted areas between Hickory Dr. and Dummyline Rd., as well as areas near Michelle Dr. extending toward Chris Kennedy Rd.

Our units have been back out to the scene several times today to monitor conditions and ensure the fire remains within the established containment area. At this time, it has remained contained but we addressed some areas that may have caused some concerns.

Earlier today, our neighboring partners at St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 deployed their drone to assess the area, and it confirmed that the fire is still within the containment lines. Additional mapping has allowed us to refine the estimated impacted area from approximately 150 acres to closer to 200 acres.

The fire will continue to burn and smolder within the containment area, and crews will remain actively monitoring the situation. We have also applied water to areas closer to roadways that were producing significant smoke.

Please be aware that humidity remains low and winds are still breezy, which means there is a continued risk of the fire jumping outside the containment area. If you see flames approaching homes, structures, or property, or notice fire activity outside the containment area, please do not hesitate to call. Any concerns, report it to 911 immediately.

We will provide updates if necessary.

🔥 Woods Fire Update - 7:42pm - 4/11/26 🔥

We are pleased to report that conditions have improved enough to begin releasing some of our mutual aid resources from the scene. Forestry crews have plowed a containment line around the fire and continue to work around the perimeter. Decreasing winds have significantly reduced the potential for rapid spread.

This does not mean our work is complete. Fire personnel will remain on scene and in the surrounding area to continue monitoring conditions and will reposition resources as needed. St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 continues to monitor the situation from above with their drone.

At the time of this update, an estimated 150 acres have burned. No homes, outbuildings, or other structures were damaged, and most importantly, there have been no injuries.

Please note that this fire will continue to burn and smolder for several days within that containment; however, it will remain under continuous monitoring and we are prepared to act if necessary.

Additional updates will be provided if necessary.
