Byrna successfully used by Pearland Police Dept. Always good to hear!
Pearland, TX – On October 16, 2025, at approximately 12:14 a.m., Pearland Police Officers received a Flock Safety Alert indicating that a known Burglary of Motor Vehicle (BMV) suspect had entered the city in the 14500 block of South Freeway (SH 288 South).
The suspect, known to target vehicles at local businesses was located by a Pearland night shift patrol officer at a business in the 13900 Block of South Freeway, Pearland, TX. The officer positioned himself in a nearby parking lot with lights off to observe the parking area. The officer observed the suspect park his vehicle between two others, exit, and force entry into one vehicle before entering another that was unlocked. The suspect then returned to his own vehicle.
Additional Pearland officers arrived and strategically surrounded the suspect’s vehicle to prevent a potential pursuit. The suspect initially attempted to reverse away but stopped upon realizing that multiple patrol units had blocked all exits. Despite repeated verbal commands, the suspect refused to exit the vehicle.
A Byrna Pepper Ball Gun was deployed through the open driver-side window, which successfully gained compliance. The suspect opened the door to get fresh air but continued to refuse to exit the vehicle. Officers subsequently pulled the suspect from the vehicle and took him into custody without further incident.
The suspect was not injured and only experienced the temporary, intended effects of the Byrna deployment.
The suspect was identified as Jarve Dean (36 years of age) of Houston. Dean was charged with Burglary of Vehicles – With Two or More Previous Convictions (State Jail Felony).
This swift and coordinated response demonstrates the effectiveness of technology-assisted policing and the dedication of Pearland Officers in preventing ongoing property crimes in our community.
