The Pearson Police Department is excited to announce our 3rd Women’s Firearm Course! 🇺🇸

This course is designed to provide women with valuable fi****ms education, safety instruction, and hands-on experience in a supportive environment.

On 8/14/2026 at around 5:30 pm, while conducting routine patrol, an officer with the Pearson Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an obscured tag. During the traffic stop, officers detected the odor of ma*****na coming from inside the vehicle.

Based on the odor and other circumstances observed during the encounter, officers conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle.

During the search, officers located approximately 1.7 pounds of suspected ma*****na, packaged in several Mason jars, several fi****ms, digital scales, pills not in original containers, and several other items (pictured below).

The driver was placed under arrest and charged with
O.C.G.A. 40-2-41 Tinted or Obscured Tag

O.C.G.A. 16-13-30 (j)(1) Possession of Ma*****na with Intent to Distribute

O.C.G.A. 16-13-30 (j)(1) Possession of Ma*****na More than an Ounce

O.C.G.A. 16-13.32.2 Possession of Drug Related Object (2 Counts)

O.C.G.A. Possession of Drugs Not in Original Container (2 Counts)

O.C.G.A. 16-11-106(b) Possession of Firearm During Certain Felonies (5 Counts)

O.C.G.A. 16-13-32.4 Possession of Ma*****na with Intent to Distribute within 1,000 Feet of School Property

O.C.G.A. 16-13-30 (j)(1) Sales of Ma*****na

The individual was transported to the Atkinson County Jail to await further judicial proceedings.

The Pearson Police Department remains committed to keeping all illegal drugs out of our community and will continue proactive enforcement efforts to protect the citizens of Pearson.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

🚔 Back-to-School Traffic Plan 🚔

The Pearson Police Department will be assisting Pearson Elementary School with traffic control during the first few days of school to help keep students, parents, and staff safe while traffic adjusts.

Please follow the traffic pattern below:

🟥 Patrol officers will be stationed on King Street North (marked by the red squares on the map). They are there to ensure there is NO thru traffic when students are walking from the field to the elementary school.

Parents dropping off students:
•Enter from Highway 441 North and turn onto Lott Avenue to access the school.
•After dropping off your child, exit using McNeal Avenue West and continue back to Highway 441 North.

If you are traveling to work and need to head toward Douglas on King Street North:
•Please use McNeal Avenue to access King Street North.

Drivers coming into Pearson from Douglas on King Street North to drop off students:
•You will be directed to continue to Highway 441 North and then return to the school using Lott Avenue.

We will also have an officer on Highway 441 North and McNeal Avenue to assist with traffic control as parents leave the school.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work together to keep traffic moving smoothly and, most importantly, keep our students safe as they return to school. Thank you for helping us make the start of the school year a safe one!

🚨 🚨 Community Notice 🚨 🚨

Earlier today, an officer with the Pearson Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Joshua Stringer, who is known to our agency and has outstanding warrants through the Pearson Police Department and Coffe County Sheriff’s Department.

Rather than comply with the traffic stop, Stringer fled in an apparent attempt to avoid arrest on those outstanding warrants. The incident occurred on Lott Avenue near North Main Street.

Joshua Stringer was last seen wearing a blue shirt, a black hat, and has tattoos on his neck.

None of Joshua Stringer’s outstanding warrants involve allegations of violent offenses or fi****ms-related crimes, and he is not believed to pose a danger to the public. However, we ask residents in the area to remain vigilant and contact law enforcement if they see him or have information regarding his whereabouts. Please do not attempt to approach or apprehend him.

Our officers know Joshua Stringer’s identity and are actively working to locate and take him into custody. We appreciate the continued support and cooperation of our community.

Today, we celebrate the birth of our nation and the freedoms we are blessed to enjoy. As you gather with family and friends, we hope your day is filled with laughter, good food, and lasting memories.

If you’re traveling, please drive safely, buckle up, and never drive under the influence. If you’re celebrating with fireworks, use them responsibly and keep safety a top priority.

Our officers will be on duty throughout the holiday, committed to keeping our community safe so everyone can enjoy a happy Fourth of July.

🚔🐍 Officer Westberry officially handled his very first call today as a Pearson PD Officer and let’s just say it was a little outside of our normal wheelhouse.

No traffic stops, no reports, no investigations… just a snake that needed wrangling.

We’re proud to report that Officer Westberry passed his first unofficial “Snake Relocation Unit” test with flying colors. Safe to say he’s ready for whatever Pearson throws at him next… hopefully with fewer scales.

Welcome to the job, Officer Westberry! 😂
