Never plug a space heater into a powerstrip. Aways plug space heaters directly into a wall outlet. Always keep heaters away from combustible material. Be safe!

Always plug your space heater into a wall outlet. Never plug your space heater into a power strip or extension cord.

Most power strips and extension cords are not designed to meet the power needs of a space heater. The heater requires more power than strips or extension cords are designed to handle. They will literally meltdown and start fires. When in doubt, read the safety information that came with your space heater for the manufacturer recommendations.

Don't get distracted while cooking tonight and tomorrow. Keep an eye on your stove top and oven. If deep frying your turkey make sure it is thawed and dry before placing it in the fryer. Your fryer should be at least 10 feet away from any structures or flammable materials, and never indoors or on a deck.

The Fire Prevention Team has presented 14 separate Fire Prevention Programs in the community over the last three weeks.

This week is Fire Prevention Week. This video shows just how fast fire grows. From the time a fire starts in your home you have less than 3 minute to escape. Have a plan: smoke detectors in every room, know two ways out, sleep with your bedroom doors closed, have a predetermined meeting place for family.
