🍎 Pecos High School-PBTISD Teacher of the Year: Joe Tyus

For 30 years, Joe Tyus has made an impact on students through honesty, care, and the kind of guidance that stays with them long after graduation. 💜🤍💛

At Pecos High School, Mr. Tyus teaches juniors and seniors, helping students prepare not only for the next assignment or test, but for life beyond the classroom.

Being selected as Teacher of the Year is a meaningful honor for Mr. Tyus.

“I am humbled and honored to be recognized by my peers,” Tyus shared.

One of his favorite teaching memories happened years later, in the produce aisle of a grocery store. A former student approached him and reminded him of a conversation they once had. “Do you remember that time when you told me you were going to talk to me like I was your own kid?” the former student asked. Mr. Tyus remembered. The student then looked at him and said, “I heard you and thank you.”

For Mr. Tyus, there is no greater gift than knowing a student heard him, remembered him, and carried that moment forward.

PHS ALLPATH Club members represented Pecos well at the regional ALLPATH event at Odessa College on April 30! 💜🤍💛

A total of 28 Pecos High School students and 17 Crockett Middle School students participated, competing alongside 19 teams to design the most reliable energy grid for their towns. Students made strategic decisions, solved problems, and adapted to challenges throughout the competition.

We are proud of our students for showing the 5 C’s of Engineering: curious, creative, collaborative, committed, and contributive.
Congratulations to our winning teams:
🥇 1st Place — Diana Delgado and Sarah Martinez
🥈 2nd Place — Lorelyn Lopez, Clementina Elpedez, and Aylin Cano
🥉 3rd Place — Felipe Corona, Rain Karlisle Antipuesto, and Nicole Bryant

These teams have qualified for the State Competition at Trinity University in San Antonio on May 30!

Great job to all participants for representing PHS and Crockett with excellence! 🦅

Pecos High School Construction and Welding had a great week in Amarillo at the Top of Texas Competition! 💜🤍💛

These students put in a lot of time, effort, and practice before competition day, and it showed. They represented Pecos well, brought home several awards, and even had some students place as Best in Class. 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️

It was a fun experience for everyone, with competitors winning prizes like T-shirts, tools, and more. Our students also received several compliments on their behavior throughout the trip, which says a lot about the way they carried themselves. 👏

Congratulations to all of our Construction and Welding students. We’re proud of the way you represented Pecos High School, and we’re excited to see what you do next year! ⚡️
