We know many people have the same questions that keep arising, regarding the boil order. We hope to answer most of those here.

WHO IS AFFECTED - If you pay your water bill to the City of Peculiar, you're in the boil order. If you pay your bill to one of the public water districts ( #2, #7, #10) you're not in the boil order and can disregard. If you still have questions, call 816-779-2200 or email [email protected].

IF YOU DIDN'T GET A ROBOCALL - This likely means you need to update your phone number with the city water department. Robocalls went out to the primary contact phone number for every city water customer.

IF YOU WANT TO RECEIVE TEXTS such as the ones sent out this morning, or others regarding weather, etc. simply text 64078 to 888777 to receive alerts

TIMELINE - Yesterday afternoon, the MoDNR contacted the City of Peculiar, with information that a water sample they had pulled on Joe Holt Pkwy. did not pass testing for regulation requirements. This does not always mean the water is bad. Oftentimes it can be a result of where the sample was pulled, whether the water had been sitting stagnant in the system, or other reasons. Nonetheless, out of an abundance of caution, DNR notified the city that they would be sending a "boil water order" with specific instructions for compliance.

When that order was received by staff this morning (attached photo), and staff spoke with DNR, they advised that notification method #1 would not be necessary, since the city had two other means of notification (robocalls and text alerts). At that point, city staff immediately began mobilizing, making notifications, and obtaining mass quantities of bottled water for distribution.

HOW LONG WILL THIS LAST - The order will be in effect until two samples can be obtained on two different days and tested satisfactorily. One of those has already been pulled and sent to DNR. The other will be done tomorrow. Sunday, however, is the earliest that the testing will be completely finished and results received.

We recognize the difficulty of this situation for our community. We wish this process was faster, but we are absolutely committed to your safety first and foremost. Our employees, who work and live here, are also affected by this situation. We are doing everything in our power to keep everyone safe, and resolve this situation as soon as possible.

** UPDATE** The male subject is now in custody after a short pursuit. The female is still at large. Last seen in the silver lake area in Raymore.

** SECOND UPDATE **
Both suspects are now in custody. Big thanks to Raymore Police Department , and Cass County Sheriffs Office specifically their K9 team! 

If anybody sees this white male and a white female driving two John Deere gators, please call the police. They burglarized our parks facility this morning, stole a bunch of equipment, and the gator. We do not know where they got the second gator, but we suspect it is stolen as well. They were last seen in Raymore driving them together on 58 highway about 10 minutes ago.

Last night, our newest Officer Brandon George was ceremonially sworn in at the Board of Aldermen meeting. Officer George has begun his field training with experienced officers in the department. We’re excited to welcome him to our team!

*UPDATE* he was apprehended in KCMO this morning (7/29/26). He’s in custody in the Cass County jail awaiting charges.

Early this morning, around 5am, our night shift officers found some suspects up to no good (thieving) in the Rodeo Grounds area (South St. / Belinda Cir). The suspects fled through town in a truck, but the pursuit was quickly brought to a halt with one of our Grappler bumper devices, at the on-ramp to northbound I-49, before the truck could get up to high speeds and possibly hurt or kill someone. The driver bailed out and ran across all 4 busy lanes of I-49 and disappeared into the rain and darkness. Our officers have been able to identify him, however, and he will be in custody soon enough. The stolen goods in the truck were recovered. Great success story for this new piece of gear we're using to keep our community safe and secure!

Despite the unexpected microburst that ruined the day, the show must go on!!! Tomorrow is a new day! Everything will be at the same scheduled times. It takes more than a little weather to keep Peculiar down!

**CORRECTION** -- Only Class C fireworks are permitted, and bottle rockets are strictly prohibited. If they sell it in the stands within Peculiar City Limits, then it's okay to shoot. There are many tents and stands that are outside the city limits.

Many cities don't allow fireworks at all. Peculiar does. Class C fireworks are permitted - but no bottle rockets, roman candles, or aerial luminaries. Hours are 10am to 10pm July 1st-July 3rd and 10am to midnight on July 4th. No fireworks are permitted after July 4th (even though it's a weekend).

QUANTICO, VA - 255 law enforcement officers, including our own Chief Don Shepard graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia on June 18, 2026. He was proudly accompanied by his own family, along with Major Aly Abdelgawad - Deputy Chief of the Belton Missouri Police Department, who was a graduate of the 262nd session of the FBINA.

The 298th session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from 46 states and the District of Columbia. The class also included 29 international members of law enforcement agencies from 26 countries, five military organizations, and four federal civilian organizations. Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious professional development programs in law enforcement, fewer than one percent of all law enforcement officers have the opportunity to attend the program.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.

FBI Director Kash Patel delivered remarks at the ceremony. Class spokesperson Charles Chapeau from the Georgia State Patrol, Atlanta, GA, represented the graduating officers.

FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees provide the training; many instructors are recognized internationally in their fields. Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia, which accredits all the National Academy courses offered.

A total of 57,196 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.
