At approximately 10:50am on Sunday, the Peggs Fire Department received a water-rescue call at Littlefield’s campground along Spring Creek near Peggs. Overnight storms caused flash flooding in the area, stranding several people in the campground. Firefighters and law enforcement officers quickly responded and successfully rescued 12 individuals from the floodwaters. All were brought to safety without injury.

Peggs Fire Department appreciates the Tahlequah Fire Department, Locust Grove Fire Department, Illinois River Fire Department, GRDA Police, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Northeastern Health System EMS, and Cherokee County 911 for their assistance in the rescue operation.

The Peggs Fire Department continues to battle wildfires across our district.

A fire occurred last night between Hwy 82C and E. 645 Rd. Firefighters, along with an Oklahoma Forestry Services crew, worked into the early morning hours to contain the fire.

Reminder: The burn ban remains in effect. Please avoid any outdoor burning and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately.
