From the Local History Room: On Sunday, June 14, Springdale Cemetery formally dedicated its new Revolutionary War Patriot Plaza, which honors the memory of three Patriots who came to Peoria in the 1830s. One of them, Pvt. Levin H. Powell (1763-1836), died at the Peoria Narrows while his family was on their way to the Washington area in Tazewell County.

The Pekin Public Library's west parking lot (on the corner of Broadway and S. Capitol) will be closed from 12:00-4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18 for our Truck a Palooza event. Therefore, the book drop will be inaccessible by car during that time.

From the Local History Room -- This week, we paint a "Portrait of a Patriot" named James Broyhill Sr. (1761-1842), a Virginia militiaman during the Revolutionary War who came to Tazewell County in 1833 and settled east of Tremont.
