We had the honor of having Chief Justice Elect Tom Parker conduct the Oaths of Office, the Honorable Mary Sue McClurkin, serval personal pastors, and a multitude of American Village volunteers and Board members participate in, what we believe to be, the best and most unique Swearing-In Ceremonies in Alabama. This week, the Delegation had an opportunity to host Leadership Shelby County for their Government Day in Montgomery. Members of the Delegation participated in a Q&A with the Leadership class and then visited with the members during lunch, which hosted Governor Ivey as the speaker. There was a great turn out this year to the Shelby County Chambers' Legislative Preview Luncheon hosted at Jeff State's Valleydale Campus. Members of the Delegation enjoyed discussing issues for the 2018 Regular Legislative Session with our business community. Session began early this year, on January 9th, to accommodate the elections happening later this year, so it was nice to visit with this group after spending the week in Montgomery. We look forward to seeing our Chamber members again in February when they come down for their annual Montgomery Drive-In.

This morning the members of the Delegation visited the Alabama Wildlife Center, located at Oak Mountain State Park. We had a wonderful time visiting with the Executive Director Doug Adair and his very knowledgeable staff. The Center is the oldest and largest Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center in the state. The Delegation was privileged enough to get to meet some of the raptor residents and see how the employees and volunteers care for the birds being rehabilitated for the wild. Sen. Waggoner was even given the opportunity to release a Cooper's Hawk back into the wild. This much needed Center is a great asset to, not only Shelby County, but to the state of Alabama.
