From its humble beginning as a 940 acre park atop Double Oak Mountain established by the Alabama State Lands Act of 1927, Oak Mountain State Park has grown to 11,632 acres making it Alabama's Largest state park. Did you know that Oak Mountain State Park is home to over a dozen different snake species?

While seeing a snake on the trail can give you a jump scare, they play a crucial role in keeping our park's ecosystem healthy. Snakes are a natural part of Alabama's beautiful biodiversity. 🐍

Who was Huggin’ Molly? How many ghosts are on the mighty USS Alabama? Where is the Vanishing Hitchhiker, Lonnie? Did you see the Choccolocco Monster?

We invite you into the half-lit places where history and storytelling meet. Across Alabama’s forests, rivers, backroads, and small towns, stories have been whispered, wondered over, and passed down for generations. Some explain the unexplainable... others simply ask us to listen a little more closely.
