Hello Pelican!
I want to recognize our amazing Volunteers at the Pelican Volunteer Fire & EMS Department for a call they went on this morning. We received a call in the early hours of the morning for a patient who had suffered a bad fall and a fracture. This patient needed to be transported from a remote location back to Pelican and prepped for emergency helicopter Medevac.
Without hesitation, our amazing Volunteers at Pelican Fire & EMS responded early this morning with two skiffs carrying medical and transport supplies out to a remote location and stabilized, extracted, and transported the patient into town, where more members of the team prepped for evacuation. The operation went smoothly and safely, and the team received praise from the flight medics, the patient’s family, community members, TEMSCO, and 2 coordinating law enforcement agencies for their hard work.
Every day our community members work together as a team, but in times like this when faced with tricky situations and handling a crisis smoothly and safely, our volunteers rise above and beyond to care for others. Sometimes an event might seem ordinary or “all in a day’s work”, but when we take a step back and look at all the moving parts, we realize that we are lucky to be part of a team who choose to do what not many would.
