We have celebrated April as National Poetry Month at Duran. Students visited the library earlier this month with their ELA classes for a poetry lesson with local poet, Brian Smith. Art students studied imagery in poetry and design and layouts with Mrs. Jack and Mrs. Sweet before illustrating artwork for poems. Our library sponsored a school-wide poetry contest. We had sixty students participate in the contest submitting ninety poems. Today the students who wrote the top twelve poems for the contest had an awards event in the library where they shared their original poems. Our students at Duran amazed us with their creativity and talent.
Congratulations to
First place- Ariel Benson
Second place- Serynity Hall
Third place- Hannah Jack
The remaining top twelve: Amelia Brown, Emory Castleberry, Olivia Craven, Sofia Garcia, Noelle Hunt, Micah Norman, Naiya Patel, Logan Phifer, Reagan Stinson
