Today we’re celebrating 35 years of leadership and dedication from our Line Superintendent, Rob Burton! 🎉

For the past 35 years, Rob has played an important role in keeping the lights on for our members while leading with experience, dedication, and a strong focus on safety and service.

“It’s hard to believe 35 years have gone by so quickly. I’ve been fortunate to work alongside dedicated co-workers over the years who have become lifelong friends, and I’m proud of the work we do for our members every day. Being part of this cooperative has meant a great deal to me, and I’m thankful for all the memories and relationships built over the years.”

In May, we recognize National Electrical Safety Month to raise awareness about reducing electrical-related fires, injuries, and fatalities.

Here are a few important safety tips to keep in mind:

• Never use electrical equipment near water.
• Check all light bulbs to ensure the wattage is safe and suitable for the fixture.
• Never run extension cords under rugs, through walls or across doorways.
• Do not plug too many devices into a single outlet or power strip.

Beat the heat and save energy this summer!

Raise your thermostat a few degrees when possible and make sure to replace dirty/clogged filters so your system runs efficiently. Use smaller appliances instead of the oven to keep extra heat out of the kitchen and remember to close blinds during the hottest times of the day.

Simple actions can lead to significant savings this summer.

Safety is always our top priority. ⚠️

This week, PCE crews completed annual Mayday and Bucket Truck Rescue training. This important hands-on exercise prepares employees to respond quickly and safely during emergency situations in the field.

Throughout the training, linemen practiced bucket truck rescue techniques and emergency response procedures, reinforcing the teamwork, communication, and preparedness needed when every second matters.

Training like this helps ensure our crews are ready to safely serve our members and support each other every day.

🎓 Investing in Our Future: 2026 Scholarship Recipients Announced!

As part of our ongoing commitment to the cooperative principle of "Concern for Community," Pella Cooperative Electric is proud to support the next generation of leaders through education. Each year, we award $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors across our service area—an investment that totals up to $11,000 annually.

“We believe in investing in future leaders in our communities, which is why we award up to $11,000 in scholarships every year to graduating seniors,” said Doug Stewart, CEO of Pella Cooperative Electric. “We want to thank all the seniors who applied and congratulate the Class of 2026.”

📚 Meet the 2026 Scholarship Recipients:

Kaden Kloster - Attending Iowa Lakes Community College to study agronomy.
Mia Starrett – Attending Simpson College to study accounting and business administration
Sawyer Veldhuizen – Attending Iowa State University to study cybersecurity and engineering
Palmer Hemming - Attending Iowa State University to study psychology and political science
Will Conover - Attending Iowa State University to study data science
Logan Ruff - Attending DMACC to study agriculture business
Garrett Wielard - Attending Morningside University to study sports communication

These scholarships are available to students in the following districts: Grinnell, Knoxville, Lynnville-Sully, Newton, North Mahaska, PCM, Pella Christian, Pella High, Pleasantville, Twin Cedars, and homeschool students within these areas.
