Summary: In addition to a strong traditional law enforcement presence, the Mayor and his staff have been working on several initiatives to address criminal activity within Sunbury Village. While history has taught us that the solution to this ongoing problem will not be achieved by trying to police our way out of it, we do value the experience and training of our professionals and equally value the concerns and suggestions of our residents to help guide us through these challenging decisions. In consultation with the Police Chief and Township Engineer, the Township has developed a multi-step plan to address activities known to negatively impact a community’s quality of life. The recent installation of Speed Tables, along with the upgrading to brighter LED street lighting within the neighborhood were as a result of listening to the concerns of the residents. Although these steps have been successful in achieving the desired results, we can’t stop there. We are now prepared to take the next step in this process to take our neighborhood back from those who are not invested in it for the long term. By using traffic control measures to decrease the number of access/egress points, change traffic flow across the neighborhood and limit overnight parking, combined with existing measures that have already been initiated, we believe we will establish an environment less conducive to criminal activity and more in line with that of a neighborhood desirous of raising a family. Similar traffic control measures have been successfully implemented to address criminal activity in other communities and have resulted in enhanced resident safety.

Please join the Mayor and his staff on February 25th at 7:00 PM, at the Nesbit Center for a presentation about the proposed new traffic control measures. Be sure to RSVP to [email protected]!
