Whether you're heading to the beach, the park, a sporting event, or spending time outdoors, remember to:

🔆Another day – another heat advisory🔆

We’re back at it, South Florida. If you are out and about today, or if your daily activities or work keeps you outdoors for extended periods of time, please be sure to take precautions against the oppressive heat.

🔆Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate. Drink plenty of liquid, even if you do not feel thirsty.
🔆Seek out shade or head indoors to cool off in the A/C (if you can.)
🔆Wear lightweight clothing (and light-colored, if possible)

🚙And never, EVER, leave a child, elderly adult or pet in a vehicle – even if you think you’ll be gone for a few minutes, and you crack the window open a bit. It doesn’t take long for the temps inside a car to reach potentially deadly levels.

And if you can, check on your neighbors, especially if they are elderly.

Take care of yourselves and each other.

🔑A secure home starts with secure windows.

Take a few minutes to inspect every window in your home. Make sure each window closes completely, locks properly, and cannot be easily forced open from the outside. Over time, locks can become worn, frames can shift, and windows may no longer provide the protection they were designed to offer.

For added security, consider installing impact-resistant security film or reinforced window locks. These additional layers of protection can make it much more difficult for a burglar to gain entry and may encourage criminals to move on to an easier target.

Remember, many residential burglaries occur when criminals find an unsecured entry point. Secure windows help protect your home, your belongings, and your loved ones.

The Pembroke Park Police Department encourages all residents to make home security a regular part of their routine.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for South Florida, as dangerous heat and humidity create conditions that can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to take precautions throughout the day:
🔆 Drink water frequently, even if you do not feel thirsty
🔆 Take regular breaks in air-conditioned buildings or shaded areas
🔆 Avoid strenuous outdoor work, exercise, or recreation during the hottest part of the day, typically from late morning through early evening
🔆 Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing
🔆 Use sunscreen and protect yourself from direct sun exposure
🔆 Check on seniors, young children, and others who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat
🔆 Never leave children, older adults, or pets inside a parked vehicle, even for a short period of time

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke can develop quickly in South Florida's summer conditions. If you experience dizziness, nausea, confusion, rapid pulse, or other signs of heat illness, move to a cooler location and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.
