🚔 Traffic Tip Tuesday 🚔

Let me set the scene:

You approach an intersection.

The light turns yellow.

What is your next move?

A) Begin slowing down and prepare to stop.

B) Accelerate and discover what your vehicle is truly capable of.

If you chose B, please know that was not the correct answer.

If the person in your passenger seat grabs that little handle above the door and says, "Oh Lord," you've probably made the wrong decision. 😄

With a few new traffic control devices around the county, let's all remember that yellow means prepare to stop. NOT "floor it."

Drive safe, Bryan County.

🚔 Since It Came Up...

Speed enforcement was mentioned in our comments recently, so we thought we'd share a few numbers from May.

During the month of May, Bryan County Sheriff's Office deputies issued a total of 504 speed-related citations and warnings.

That number includes:
• Speeding citations
• Written warnings for speeding
• Following too closely citations
(It does not include verbal warnings.)

When you break it down, that's an average of 16 speed-related enforcement actions every single day.

The good news is that avoiding a speeding ticket is actually pretty simple. The speed limit signs have been giving away the answers this whole time!😄

Our goal isn't to write tickets. It's to reduce crashes and keep our roadways safe for everyone who travels through Bryan County.

So yes, we're enforcing speed laws.

And yes, we're still reminding folks not to ride six feet off somebody else's bumper.

Do y'all like seeing statistics like this? If so, let me know in the comments. We've got plenty more numbers where these came from and would be happy to share more about what your Sheriff's Office is doing each month.

Drive safe, Bryan County.

🚔Traffic Tip....Friday??🚔

I know it's not Tuesday, but y'all are about to get a traffic tip anyway, so listen up!!

If you know what song the driver in front of you is listening to... you're following too close.

If they tap their brakes and your life flashes before your eyes... you're definitely too close.

Contrary to popular belief, riding six feet off someone's bumper does not make them drive faster.
It does, however, increase your chances of a wreck, a bad day, or explaining to a deputy why you're now parked in somebody else's trunk.

Here's the thing: if you rear-end someone, you're probably going to be the one getting the ticket. That's because you're responsible for leaving enough space to stop safely.

A good rule of thumb is the 3-second rule.
Here's how it works:
1️⃣ Pick a fixed object along the road.
2️⃣ When the vehicle in front of you passes it, start counting.
3️⃣ If you reach that same object before you get to three seconds, it's time to back off a little.

Leave some space.
Nobody likes a tailgater.

🚔 Proud of Our Team

Last Friday, the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office had the honor of hosting the May GOHS Southeast Traffic Enforcement Network (SETEN) meeting.

During the meeting, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety presented the 2025 awards, and our agency was honored to receive several recognitions highlighting the hard work and dedication of our deputies and supervisors.

🏆 Bryan County Sheriff’s Office
- 2025 Agency of the Year

🏆 Corporal Nicholson
- 2025 DUI Officer of the Year

🏆 First Sergeant Eason
- 2025 Speed Enforcement Award
- 2025 Officer of the Year

The SETEN region includes all agencies from Bryan, Bulloch, Candler, Chatham, Effingham, Evans, and Screven counties, along with the Georgia State Patrol.

We’ve got some great people here at BCSO, and it’s always nice seeing their hard work recognized. Congratulations to everyone involved! 👏

Kids Today Will Never Understand

☀️ It’s the last day of school, and it has me thinking about summer back in our day…

You left the house in the morning.

Your parents had no way to contact you.

Our parents really said,“Be home before dark,”
and just trusted the process. 😄

We rode bikes all day,
drank water from random water hoses,
made mud pies,
climbed things we definitely shouldn’t have climbed,
and somehow thought hitting dragonflies and bees with a wiffle ball bat was quality entertainment.(Did that one get anyone else in trouble with their Nana? …just me? Okay.) 😄

Simpler times. ️

Meanwhile, today losing WiFi for five minutes is considered a hardship.

Bryan County Sheriff’s Office Mighty Bryan Bikes

This school year, the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office wanted to recognize students who go above and beyond to make their schools and communities better places. At each school with a 5th grade class, the School Resource Officer personally selected one student to receive a brand-new bicycle.

These students were chosen because they consistently demonstrate kindness, respect, responsibility, leadership, and strong character both in and out of the classroom.

We are proud of these amazing students and grateful for the opportunity to reward their hard work and good example. Congratulations to each recipient! Keep leading by example and riding toward a bright future!

BCSO looks forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come as we celebrate and encourage the next generation of leaders in our community.

A Tale as Old as Time: Cops vs. Firefighters ⚾

Saturday morning brought out one of the oldest friendly rivalries around as BCSO faced off against Richmond Hill Fire Department on the softball field.

After seven innings of competition, questionable athletic decisions, and enough trash talk to last until fall, BCSO came away with the win with a final score of 16-11!

The team headed home with aching muscles, a couple of battle scars, and stories that somehow got bigger after every inning, but luckily plenty of smiles too!

We appreciate Richmond Hill Fire Department for coming out and making it such a fun game. While the rivalry for bragging rights is alive and well, it’s always great getting together with the people we proudly serve alongside every day.

Great job to everyone who came out to play and support both teams. We’re already looking forward to the rematch sometime this fall! ⚾
