Bryan County’s Free Disposal Day is happening Saturday, August 22, 2026!

🕘Landfills will open at 9:00 AM
🕘 Will close at 5:00 PM or once maximum capacity is reached

📍 2 Locations:
• Mill Creek Landfill - 7392 US Hwy 280, Pembroke
• Fort McAllister Landfill - 184 Fort McAllister Rd, Richmond Hill

This event is open to Bryan County residents only
No commercial dumping permitted

Please plan ahead, arrive early if possible, and allow for extra time. We appreciate everyone’s planning and cooperation in making this free service to our community continually successful!

On this day 250 years ago, the Declaration of Independence was read aloud in Savannah for the first time. The Georgia Council of Safety recorded the following in their minutes:

“The President laid before the Board a letter from the Honorable John Hancock, Esqr., together with a copy of the Declaration of Independency, which being read it was agreed that it be proclaimed in this Town on Saturday next at eleven o’clock in the forenoon, and that orders do issue to the Commanding Officers of the Militia to assemble the people accordingly.
ORDERED, that the Declaration of Independency be read at the Assembly House, Liberty Pole and the Battery.”

‘President’ in this case refers to Council President Archibald Bulloch, namesake of Bulloch County. Pictured is an engraving of the first reading in Philadelphia on July 8th.
