The Pembroke Fire Department will be conducting a prescribed burn at Memorial Park, weather permitting, on Tuesday night around 6:30pm. This is an annual event requested by the Pembroke Recreation Department to promote rejuvenation of the under brush in designated areas.

Citizens transiting the area should use extreme caution as there will be fire apparatus and firefighters in the roadways in the park.

The operation should be completed by 10:00pm. Residents in the immediate vicinity of the park should be prepared for drifting smoke should the wind shift unexpectedly. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience. If you have any questions, please call the fire station at (603) 485-3621.

IT'S COLD OUTSIDE!!!

We have been experiencing a bundle of cold temperatures lately and our heating systems are working harder to keep us warm.

Is your heating system up to the challenge?

Heating systems and appliances are just like our vehicles; they need regular preventative maintenance. Just like changing the oil in your car, or filling up your windshield washing fluid, your heating system needs regular attention as well.

Make sure your heating system is checked regularly by a trained technician at least every year. Some solid fuel burning appliances may need more frequent (monthly or weekly) attention to keep them running clean and efficiently.

With the oncoming snow, please make sure that air intakes and exhaust vents for heating appliances are kept clear of snow and ice to prevent them from being blocked.

Check your smoke alarms and if you have a heating system or appliance that burns a carbon-based fuel, make sure you have a working Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarm on each floor of your home.

This weekend let's look out for each other and check your neighbors. If you know someone in your neighborhood who lives alone and may need help staying warm, please check on them.

Stay warm and stay safe.

Prior to zooming back to the North Pole, Santa asked us to say a huge thank you to everyone in Pembroke who came out to say Hi to Santa while he toured around town today..

He was especially grateful for the entire crew at the Pembroke Fire Department and the Pembroke NH Police Department for putting together the es**rt.

Lastly, he was also thankful for the two elves who assisted him from the Pembroke EMS department.

The men and women of the Pembroke Fire Department would like to wish everyone a happy and fire safety holiday.

Just in case that you might have fallen for the false impression that today’s brief rain was enough to start burning again, you would be wrong. Here are a few brief facts that we received this morning from the National Weather Service (NWS) New Hampshire Drought Task Force:

- This is the driest New Hampshire has been in 131 years!
- it will take an estimated 11 - 17 inches of rain to bring New Hampshire back to normal groundwater levels.
- August only received about 20 - 50% of the normal precipitation depending on location.
- Weekly evaporative losses averaged about 1” per week from mid July to mid August. Evaporation for June, July and August was estimated between 17 - 20”.

It is dry out there and burning ban will remain in effect until further notice even during rain events. Stay safe!
