Today, on Womenโ€™s Equality Day, the Governorโ€™s Advisory Commission on Women is releasing the Guide to Starting a County Commission for Women, a practical resource to help counties create local advisory bodies that elevate womenโ€™s voices and experiences.

As a member of the Governorโ€™s Advisory Commission on Women, Iโ€™m pleased to share this new resource.

๐€๐œ๐œ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ ๐ฎ๐ข๐๐ž ๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐ž: pa.gov/womenscommissionguide

The guide provides counties across Pennsylvania with a practical, nonpartisan roadmap for establishing a local Commission for Women. It includes tools for community listening and engagement, a clear blueprint for building a Commission, and ready-to-use bylaws and templates to help counties get started.

Shaped by stories shared during the State of the Woman Listening Tour, this resource provides a sustainable way for counties to continue the conversation and build lasting structures where womenโ€™s voices can inform local decisions.

Womenโ€™s Equality Day reminds us of the progress that has been made and the work still ahead. Ensuring womenโ€™s perspectives remain part of community decision-making is an important part of that work.

Local communities that establish a Commission for Women are encouraged to connect with the Commission at [email protected].

Iโ€™m proud to share that 35 acres of farmland in Plainfield Township will be permanently protected from future residential and commercial development through Pennsylvaniaโ€™s Farmland Preservation Program.

The Huratiak Homes LLC crop farm is among 34 farms totaling 2,565 acres that were recently approved for preservation across 16 counties. Together, these projects represent more than $9.1 million in investment to protect valuable farmland and keep it in agricultural production.

Pennsylvania has now preserved 6,759 farms totaling nearly 670,000 acres across 58 counties. Since the program was established in 1988, more than $1.82 billion in state, county and local funds has been invested to preserve Pennsylvaniaโ€™s farmland.

Protecting farmland is about more than preserving open space. It helps maintain our agricultural heritage, supports our farming communities and ensures future generations have the land they need to continue producing food, fiber and fuel.

Iโ€™m glad to see this investment benefiting our community and helping ensure this 35-acre farm remains farmland for generations to come.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by the tragic crash at Carlisle Airport involving a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter.

Please join me in praying for Cpl. Bryce Corman and Trooper Jason Mills, who were injured in the crash, as they recover. Iโ€™m praying for their healing and for strength and comfort for their families and fellow members of the State Police.

Iโ€™m keeping the family and loved ones of the pilot who lost his life in my thoughts and prayers as they face this heartbreaking loss.

We are grateful for the brave first responders and medical professionals who responded to this tragedy and cared for those involved. May God watch over everyone affected and bring comfort to those who are hurting.

Families of individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism deserve access to the services and compassionate care they need.

As a member of the House Human Services Committee, I raised concerns while questioning testifiers during a recent hearing on House Bill 1939, which would change fee schedule rates for home and community-based services provided through Pennsylvaniaโ€™s intellectual disability and autism programs.

I raised the issue of the hidden waiting list facing families who have a consolidated waiver but cannot access services because they cannot find a direct support professional to provide them. I am very aware this is a real issue, as I have been working with a constituent whose autistic child is facing this exact situation.

I understand personally the challenges families face in finding and retaining caring direct support professionals. My daughter, Lauren, was born with severe disabilities, and our family experienced those struggles firsthand, especially those related to low wages and workforce shortages.

While Lauren passed away at just four years old in 2007, her life taught me the profound importance of human connection. She loved hugs, and the smile that would light up her face when someone embraced her is something I will never forget. Those moments reminded me that quality support is about more than services. It is about relationships, dignity and genuine human care.

These challenges are not new. While increasing wages is an important part of the solution, we need to consider other ways to attract and retain qualified, compassionate people for this important work. Individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism deserve caregivers who provide not only essential services, but dignity, respect and human connection.

I have concerns with House Bill 1939 as currently written, but I am hopeful those concerns can be addressed through amendments before the committee considers a vote.

Congratulations to Slate Belt Outdoors LLC on its grand opening in Bangor!

I was pleased to join owner Jerome Solt, members of the Pennsylvania Game Commission and others from the community for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. I presented Jerome with a recognition plaque to mark the occasion and commend him for investing in the Slate Belt and bringing a new business to the area.

Slate Belt Outdoors will provide firearm sales and transfer services to customers in Bangor and the surrounding communities. It was a pleasure to celebrate this milestone and recognize the work that went into opening the new location.

Thank you to the Slate Belt Chamber for organizing the event and bringing the community together to welcome Slate Belt Outdoors. I wish Jerome and everyone at Slate Belt Outdoors much success in the years ahead!

The Blue Valley Farm Show once again brought the community together in Bangor with a great mix of agriculture, entertainment, food and family activities.

I enjoyed spending Friday evening at the show, catching up with constituents and people from across the community. The food and music were great, and the tractor pull provided plenty of excitement for everyone in attendance.

Throughout the week, my staff was at the show sharing information about the services my office provides and upcoming events. I appreciate everyone who stopped by to say hello, and I always enjoy getting out into the community, meeting with constituents and hearing what is important to you.

The Blue Valley Farm Show is a great opportunity to support local agriculture and enjoy time with family and friends. Thank you to everyone who helped make this yearโ€™s show another great event!
