The Village of Pender recently received a $17,455.40 Recreation Area Development Grant from the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District (LENRD). The grant funded several improvements to the Village Park, including the installation of a new Net Twister climbing feature, GaGa Ball pit, inclusive swing, new swing set frame, and additional park lighting.

The Village also extends its appreciation to Penro Construction for donating the PVC edging used as part of the park improvements.

Pictured (left to right) are Joe and Susan Strahm, Park and Greenspace Committee Members, Roger Gustafson, Board Member of the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District, Maureen Wenke, Park and Greenspace Committee Member and Pender Village Park Lead Robbie Welsh during the check presentation.

The Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District serves a 15-county area, partnering with local communities to support projects focused on flood reduction, tree planting, well decommissioning, soil conservation, water quality, recreation facilities, and wildlife habitat.
According to Gustafson, “The Lower Elkhorn NRD is happy to support projects such as this, and Pender should be proud of this accomplishment. We hope this addition to your park will be enjoyed by your community for many years—a source of great community pride!”

The Village of Pender sincerely thanks the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District and the Park & Greenspace Committee for its investment in the community. These improvements will provide new opportunities for recreation, play, and accessibility, helping ensure the park can be enjoyed by residents and visitors of all ages for years to come.
